Job Summary The essential function of this position is to answer and respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls at the Emergency Dispatch Center, enter data into the database, transmit incidents for dispatching, and dispatch emergency response teams, including medical and fire responders. Responsibilities Answer and respond to all emergency and non‑emergency calls at the Emergency Dispatch Center. Enter call information into the database and transmit incidents for dispatch or other action. Dispatch emergency response teams, including medical and fire responders. Monitor and record calls as required by department policy. Work any weekday, weekend, night, or holiday shift, including rotating shifts, on‑call status, and short‑notice relief. Remain on duty until relief is obtained, even in the event of illness or family emergency, when required. Maintain lock‑down status during natural and manmade disasters and when family members are elsewhere, for the duration of the emergency. Minimum Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent. Ability to type at least 35 words per minute. Proficiency with telecommunications phones and two‑way radio systems. Experience using Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) or related software. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to transcribe verbal information and provide verbal instructions by telephone and radio. Calm and tactful demeanor when dealing with callers. Ability to read and use maps to locate vehicles and locations. Ability to educate, evaluate, and mentor new employees.
