Job Summary
The Behavior Coach assists in the implementation of behavioral interventions and programs for Anchorage School District students of all ages and grades. This position reports to and is evaluated by a building administrator. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Job Requirements

The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment. Job Summary

The following are required:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of two years of experience working with children/adolescents with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, mental health issues, and/or intensive behavioral needs.
- Must successfully complete Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Verbal Intervention training within 30 days of hire.
- Must obtain and maintain current CPR/first aid certification.
- Must possess a current Alaska driver's license.
- A bachelor's degree in a mental health field.
- Two years of experience in working with students with behavior issues.
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training.
- Experience delivering behavioral support services to individuals with students receiving special education services, especially students with behavior issues.
- Understanding of mental health issues as they relate to the unique needs of students.
- Experience using developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions and/or behavioral supports with students with emotional and/or behavioral issues.
- Experience working collaboratively with or delegating duties to other professionals.
- Experience in data collection.
- Ability to work with children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances.
- Ability to use positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) supports in handling emotional and/or behavioral crises in a school setting.
- Utilizes proactive and positive behavioral support strategies to prevent and reduce student problem behavior
- Acts as a supportive staff member using de-escalation strategies, positive behavioral supports, and identified interventions for situations that require de-escalation.
- Solves problems with the school staff to improve services for students.
- Responds to crises proactively.
- Attends all assigned Anchorage School District training in behavioral supports and therapeutic interventions.
- Implements special education programming for students as specified in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), under the supervision of a certified special education professional.
- Maintains appropriate progress data for each student as specified in the IEP.
- Implements interventions written in Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students as specified in the IEP.
- Collects appropriate data for each student with an individualized BIP.
- Provides instructional support with direction from the teacher.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with other professionals such as regular educators, special educators, related services personnel, and teacher assistants, as well as other school staff members.
- Uses appropriate techniques and strategies to establish a supportive, therapeutic learning environment for students.
- Works with and supports students with emotional issues and/or demonstrating intensive behavioral problems.
- Understands and maintains confidentiality issues for IDEA and FERPA.
