The Maintenance Assistant performs a variety of duties including basic cleaning, maintenance, and repairs of buildings and equipment that help to keep the Community Center facilities clean, safe, and available for everyday use. Performs intermediate work performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the care and maintenance of buildings, facilities and grounds; performs related tasks as apparent or assigned.

Compensation
Douglas County uses a Pay for Performance compensation system, where employees receive annual performance evaluations and may be eligible for merit-based salary increases. Qualified employees can earn up to a 3% merit increase on their anniversary date, and may also receive an annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) during the first pay period of each fiscal year, based on the Consumer Price Index, up to a maximum of 5%. In addition, eligible employees who demonstrate exceptional, above-and-beyond performance may receive further compensation through the County's Recognition of Excellence Program.

- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and polishes floors; sweeps, vacuums and spot cleans carpeted areas.
- Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork; dusts counters, window sills, window blinds and similar fixtures.
- Empties, cleans and lines waste receptacles and disposes of trash.
- Washes doors, windows, walls, ceilings, window blinds and furniture; polishes metalwork.
- Cleans and disinfects restrooms; restocks restroom supplies as necessary.
- Cleans lighting fixtures and replaces bulbs/tubes.
- Performs basic building repair work; may paint facilities and perform graffiti removal; maintains drinking fountains.
- Secures buildings by closing windows, turning off lights, and locking doors.
- Reports the need for maintenance or repair of facilities to the appropriate supervisor; corrects or reports any fire or safety hazards and places barriers in public areas.
- Maintains equipment, materials and supplies in proper condition.
- Engages in safe working practices, including maintaining storage areas in a safe condition.
- Answers questions and provides standard information to the public.
- Maintains records of work performed, time sheets, etc.
- Maintains inventory of necessary supplies.
- Prepares and arranges meeting rooms, sound equipment, and furniture.
- Uses County vehicle to perform various tasks related to job duties.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

- High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of custodial/maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Valid Driver's License
- CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of date of employment.
- Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) 10 certification within six (6) months of date of employment.
