Company Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration Job Summary The Cincinnati VA Medical Center (CVAMC) is a two-division campus located in Cincinnati - OH and Fort Thomas - KY, serving 15 counties in Southwest OH, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana with 6 Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Bellevue - KY; Florence - KY; Lawrenceburg - IN; Hamilton - OH; Clermont County - OH; and Georgetown - OH. The CVAMC also supports two off‑main campus locations in the Cincinnati area via an Eye Center and Mental Health Outreach Community Division. In this role, the Social Worker - Program Coordinator - Local Recovery Coordinator (LRC) will coordinate programs and oversee services to create a recovery‑oriented care environment for veterans, leveraging leadership, policy implementation, and direct service delivery. Qualifications Basic Requirements (VHA Social Worker): Must meet statutory requirements under 38 U.S.C. § 7402(b)(9). United States Citizenship required; non‑citizens only if no qualified citizens are available. Master’s degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); a doctoral degree does not substitute for the master’s. Degree verification via CSWE website. Licensed or certified to practice social work at the master’s level (state license required); current state requirements found at VA. May be considered if covered by the Grandfathering Provision (for current VHA employees). Grade and experience: Social Worker (Program Coordinator) – GS‑12: requires one year of experience at GS‑11 level with advanced practice skills, judgment, and professional competency. Certification or post‑master’s training recognized by a national organization may be considered. Advanced‑practice license or certification and ability to supervise other social workers. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs) required: Program coordination and administration including consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Ability to write policies, procedures, and practice guidelines. Supervise multidisciplinary staff and provide training and orientation. Organize work, set priorities, meet multiple deadlines, and evaluate program areas. Provide clinical training, orientation, and guidance. Duties Implement national and local recovery‑oriented policies for the Mental Health Care Line. Train and consult with facility leadership, staff, veterans, families, and community partners on recovery‑oriented services. Integrate recovery‑oriented services across all mental health programs in VHA Medical Centers and Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Assist with policy development, SOPs, and implementation of mental health recovery and psychosocial rehabilitation. Collaborate through the LRC Community of Practice to share best practices. Develop local Standard Operating Procedures in partnership with inpatient mental health program managers. Support climate assessments and observations of staff interactions with veterans. Review policies, procedures, staff trainings, treatment materials, and other components of inpatient mental health services annually. Develop and execute multi‑year local plans for a recovery‑oriented continuum of mental health care. Consult with MH chief or program directors on peer specialist placements and mentorship. Assist with regional or local recovery‑oriented trainings, conferences, and outreach events (including annual Cincinnati VA Mental Health Summit). Act as MH liaison to the facility Veteran Mental Health Council and support inclusion of veterans’ voice in leadership decisions. Provide annual reports on implementation progress to VISN RC and NRC; prepare additional requested reports. Coordinate monthly conference calls with other VISN LRCs to align network responses and policies. Participate in facility MH leadership meetings and policy planning groups. Demonstrate high‑level awareness of intersectionality of mental illness and health disparities. Represent the Medical Center or healthcare system at community events and committees. Serve as point of contact for SMI Re‑Engagement Project (SMITRECC). Champion recovery as "upstream suicide prevention." Complete additional duties assigned by supervisor. Direct clinical services within PRRC/Special Services and other clinical duties as assigned. Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm; telework may be authorized on an ad-hoc basis.
