Erie Taste NY Store Clerk - Grand Island, NY

Position Overview This position will serve as the Erie Taste NY Market Store Clerk and will work under the day-to-day direction and supervision of the Taste NY Market Manager and/or Taste NY Assistant Market Manager. Primary responsibilities include assisting with management of inventory, operation of cash registers, cash controls, customer service, food service, and record keeping. On a daily basis, the store clerk will inspect the store for cleanliness and organization, refill supplies as needed, and discuss Erie County agriculture and local foods with customers to engage them in these areas and provide information upon request about the food and farm products sold in the store. Essential Functions Customer service – greet, assist, and serve the needs of store customers. Store inspection, organization, and record‑keeping – maintain a clean facility. Cash controls – follow all procedures for proper management and handling of cash. Replenishment of store supplies and inventory; track product inventory. Receive and log scheduled deliveries. Assist with promotion of agri‑tourism in Erie County by describing local farms, produce, food, and products displayed. Maintain equipment, troubleshoot if necessary, and call for repair as directed. Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, or maintained. Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested. Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. Transport self and/or program materials and resources necessary for performing position responsibilities. Participate in all required orientation, training, and in‑service meetings and events as scheduled. Support the association to maintain a safe working environment and follow applicable federal, state, and local regulations, health and safety policy, and procedures. Collaborate in activities that support Cornell Cooperative Extension activities and meetings, reporting of expenses, and general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs. Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public and other stakeholders in a professional manner at all times. Perform all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner; maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent education. Proficient English communication skills (speak, read, and write). Ability to complete basic math functions in a fast‑paced environment. Attention to detail. Basic cash register operation or willingness to learn. Valid NYS Driver’s License and willingness to meet travel requirements; must be able to drive a personal or association vehicle for pickup and delivery of product. Basic computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet-based communications. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as appropriate. Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and tactfully through verbal, written, and electronic methods. Integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and ability to handle confidential, sensitive information. Ability to follow procedures and written instructions. Physical ability to lift 20–50 lbs regularly with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work in a typical retail environment, including lifting, moving, and transporting supplies and equipment with or without accommodation. Preferred Qualifications At least one year of retail sales experience. Experience in customer service and retail environments. Basic marketing understanding. Ability to handle multiple tasks. Proficiency with internet‑based communications. Knowledge of the organization, operation, philosophy, and objectives of Cooperative Extension. Knowledge of agriculture and agricultural practices. Compensation and Work Hours All work is performed on‑site at the Taste NY Store on Grand Island, NY. Remote work is not possible. This is a part‑time position, up to 19 hours per week, with an hourly wage ranging from $16.40 to $16.95, commensurate with experience. The position requires occasional evening or weekend work. Location and Travel The position requires that the employee work on‑site at the Taste NY Store on Grand Island, NY.
