This part time role will work 40 hours within a two-week pay period. Will work a rotating schedule between evenings (start times falling between 1 PM and 2 PM) and nights (start time 10 PM). Includes rotating weekends and nights, as well as last minute overtime into the next shift as needed.Purpose of this position: Under general supervision, performs work which involves collecting laboratory specimens and/or performing EKG testing on inpatients. Enters data into the electronic health record (EHR) and/or the laboratory information system (LIS). Interacts and communicates with patients, their families, and members of the healthcare team by using various communication tools in a timely and professional manner.Responsibilities:General dutiesCorrectly prioritizes work based on order parameters and responds to critical needs.Assists co-workers in completion of workPerforms standard procedures for identifying patientsDocuments specimen collections and testing according to standard procedure in the electronic health record (EHR) and the laboratory information system (LIS).Communicates any problems or issues with the patient care teamCleans equipment between patient contactTroubleshoots equipment in event of malfunction. Alerts Bio-Electronics and/or IT helpdesk if neededPhlebotomy specific tasksPerforms blood drawing procedures including venipuncture and capillary collection, standard labeling, and transporting specimens according to specimen requirements and standard protocolEKG specific tasksPerforms electrocardiogram procedure and transfers data to EHROperates and performs routine maintenance on EKG cart according to procedureFollows critical value provider protocol notification and documentationQualifications:Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or GED -AND- Completion of a recognized training program for phlebotomy -OR- One year of phlebotomy experiencePreferred Qualifications:Certified or certification eligible with a Nationally accredited phlebotomy certification organizationOne year of experience in a hospital inpatient settingCompletion of a recognized phlebotomy training program with inpatient hospital internshipKnowledge/ Skills/ AbilitiesCustomer Services skillsInpatient Phlebotomy skills
