Computational Biology & Bioinformatics Expert, AI Trainer (Remote)100% Remote | Part-Time or Full-Time | Freelance Contract | $40 to $125 per hour

A leading AI research company that works with large AI companies is seeking experienced computational biologists and bioinformaticians to work as remote AI trainers and evaluate how frontier AI models handle real biological data analysis: differential expression, variant interpretation, single cell workflows, multiomics integration and statistical genetics. You bring the judgment to know when a result is real. This is project-based, fully remote work you can do alongside a current job, including evenings and weekends.

What the Work Involves
Design realistic analysis tasks from your own practice, such as QC and interpretation of an RNA-seq count matrix, a variant prioritization report, a batch effect diagnosis or a pipeline audit
Assemble the files an analyst would actually use: count matrices, sample sheets, VCFs, pipeline logs, reference annotations, notebooks
Run those tasks through frontier AI agents and grade the analysis, tables, figures or notebooks they produce
Compare two model outputs on the same task and document where each fell short
Write grading rubrics covering the right normalization, multiple testing correction and biological reading
Flag concrete failures: ignored batch effects and confounders, wrong statistical tests, wrong reference versions, silently dropped samples, code that does not do what the write-up claims
Areas of ExpertiseYou need depth in at least one of these, plus enough working knowledge of the others to judge work in adjacent areas:
Genomics and variant interpretation
Bulk or single cell transcriptomics
Proteomics, metabolomics or multiomics integration
Population and statistical genetics
Machine learning applied to biology
Clinical genomics, metagenomics or phylogenetics
Who This Is For
2+ years hands-on analysis of real biological data in industry, an academic lab or a research institute (time after your undergraduate degree)
Degree in biology or a directly related field (bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, biochemistry and similar). Biostatistics, computer science or statistics also count when paired with substantial biological data experience
You write, debug and can explain your own analysis code in Python and/or R
You have owned an analysis end to end, from raw or messy data through to a final interpretation
Solid grasp of normalization, batch effects, confounding, multiple testing and statistical power
Hands-on practitioner: you currently do, or recently did, the work yourself as an individual contributor, not solely as a manager
Strong written English; you can explain clearly why a result is wrong, not only that it is
Familiar with AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT, with the judgment to tell a well-reasoned answer from a plausible-sounding wrong one
Comfortable working independently, following detailed written instructions and incorporating feedback
Pay, Hours and Location
Pay: $40 to $125 per hour, depending on project and expertise. Paid via PayPal on a regular schedule. You are paid for every step you complete
Hours: Minimum 10 hours per week with no maximum; full-time hours are available. Multi-day task timers let you spread work across days
Location: Remote. Must be based in the United States, Canada, or the UK
Tools: Access to the AI models you will evaluate is provided; no personal subscription needed
