Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Externship Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. An environment that is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical examinations Create treatment plans Assist with diagnostics Provide dentistry services Observe, assist or perform surgical procedures Medical management of patients Participate in wellness care and surgical procedures for on-site shelter animals Engage in client medical and surgical cases Perform advanced orthopedic procedures such as TECA, TPLO, Tightrope, and THR weekly Communicate with the medical team, support staff, and clients Eligibility Third and fourth-year veterinary students. Stipend and Travel Allowance Eligible students receive a travel/living expense stipend, including reimbursement for gas and food up to $100 per week and a schedule of 5 days on, 2 days off. Students in the clinical portion of their education are also eligible for a stipend program.
