J Street Property Services is seeking a strong, experienced Community Director to lead day-to-day operations of a multifamily residential community in a competitive market environment.
This is a critical leadership role responsible for asset performance, team accountability, leasing strategy, financial oversight, and resident satisfaction. This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for a proven operator who understands how to drive occupancy, manage expenses, and lead a high-performing onsite team.
Position Overview
The Community Director is the primary point of accountability for the onsite team and overall asset performance. This role requires strong leadership, sound business judgment, and the ability to balance service excellence with financial discipline.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Culture
• Lead, coach, and develop leasing and maintenance team members
• Provide ongoing performance feedback and accountability
• Foster a culture aligned with company values and service standards
Financial Management
• Prepare and manage the operating budget
• Monitor rent collections, delinquency, and payment plans
• Approve invoices and control expenses within budget
• Review monthly financials and address performance variances
Leasing & Occupancy Strategy
• Oversee leasing activity and retention efforts
• Analyze market comps and adjust pricing or concessions as needed
• Support daily leasing operations, traffic follow-up, and move-ins
• Ensure accurate lease documentation and data integrity
Resident Experience
• Address resident concerns professionally and efficiently
• Monitor online reputation and feedback channels
• Support resident engagement and community-building efforts
Property Operations
• Conduct routine property inspections
• Ensure compliance with Fair Housing, ADA, and company policies
• Coordinate with maintenance to ensure timely turns and work orders
• Maintain curb appeal, vendor standards, and operational excellence
Qualifications
• High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• 3+ years of property management experience required
• Prior Community Director or Property Manager experience preferred
• Strong financial acumen and budgeting experience
• Experience in competitive market environments required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Yardi, OneSite, or similar platforms preferred
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
