Compensation: $28–$33 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

Position Summary:

Summit Drilling is seeking a Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician to maintain and repair a mixed fleet of commercial diesel trucks, heavy construction equipment, yellow iron, off-road machinery, and drilling-support vehicles.

This position performs preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, diagnostics, and major and minor repairs in shop and field environments. Work includes diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, steering, transmissions, fuel systems, clutches, and cooling systems.

A Class A CDL is not required at hire. Candidates must be willing and eligible to obtain one through Summit’s CDL training and support program.

Responsibilities:

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel trucks, heavy equipment, off-road machinery, and drilling-support vehicles.
• Perform preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, safety inspections, and post-repair equipment testing.
• Diagnose and repair diesel, hydraulic, electrical, brake, steering, transmission, fuel, clutch, and cooling systems.
• Use company-provided diagnostic software, testing equipment, service information, and electrical tools to identify equipment problems.
• Repair, rebuild, or replace engines, components, and other defective parts using personal mechanic tools and company-provided specialty equipment.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and road-service calls in shop and field environments.
• Complete repair orders, inspection records, maintenance documentation, and parts-usage records accurately.
• Communicate equipment status and safety concerns to the Shop Foreman while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Required Qualifications:

• At least two years of professional diesel-shop or fleet-maintenance experience.
• Hands-on experience repairing heavy equipment, commercial trucks, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, yellow iron, or other off-road machinery.
• Working knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, brake, steering, and cooling systems.
• Ability to diagnose equipment problems and complete repairs with limited supervision.
• Experience performing preventative maintenance and equipment inspections.
• Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets company requirements.
• Reliable transportation to and from the Fort Mill office.
• Willingness and eligibility to obtain a Class A CDL.
• Personal set of professional mechanic tools appropriate for the position.
• Ability to read service information, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals and maintain accurate repair documentation.
• Commitment to safe, dependable, and high-quality work.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active Class A CDL.
• DOT inspection experience or certification.
• Experience with diagnostic software, fleet telematics, and advanced hydraulic troubleshooting.
• Experience repairing drilling or environmental-remediation equipment.
• Welding, fabrication, technical-school, OSHA, First Aid/CPR, or related training.

Work Environment and Schedule:

• The normal schedule averages approximately 10 hours per day, Monday through Friday, with overtime based on operational needs.
• Infrequent Saturday or Sunday work may be required. Qualifying weekend work is paid at double time.
• Road-service calls may occur during or outside normal working hours.
• Some travel and field-repair work may be required. Qualifying assignments include paid driving time from the Fort Mill office, per diem, and company-covered hotels.
• Employees must have reliable transportation to the Fort Mill office and be comfortable working around machinery, vehicles, noise, oils, fuels, dust, and changing weather conditions while using required PPE.

Compensation and Benefits:

• $28–$33 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and licensure.
