Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse

Job Description

The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients in the recovery phase following surgical procedures. This role requires advanced knowledge in anesthesiology and the ability to critically assess patient stability, incision sites, and body temperature to identify any potential complications. Ideal candidates should have experience in critical care settings, demonstrating strong critical thinking skills essential for PACU nursing.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess patients' post-operative recovery in Phase I and Phase II.
• Evaluate vital signs and intervene in case of any abnormalities or complications.
• Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families.
• Utilize equipment such as Meditech, PCA pumps, and monitors effectively.
• Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure high-quality patient care.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a critical care RN (e.g., ER or ICU) may be considered as a substitute for PACU experience.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• A valid Hawaii RN license is required by the start date of the assignment.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) credential is recommended and may be required for specific roles.
• Other specialty certifications (e.g., NIHSS, TNCC) are preferred for certain positions.

Schedule

Shifts may vary between 8, 10, and 12 hours and can include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, with no guaranteed hours or shift preference. On-call shifts may occur 0 to 3 times per month.
