LIBRARY ASSOCIATE II- ADULT SERVICES*

Library Associate II – Southern Library (Adult Services Division) Work involves supporting programming, outreach, and community engagement for an assigned age group at an Orange County Library. This work is performed under the general supervision of a Librarian III or Library Division Supervisor I, with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. There is no supervisory responsibility. The employee may also perform related work as assigned. Work location: Southern Library in Carrboro. Responsibilities and Duties Support programming, outreach, and community engagement for an assigned age group at the library. Assist with planning and accomplishing work, including decisions regarding needs and requests of staff and the public. Participate in preparedness and response operations as directed by County or library management; may be required to fill temporary assignments in different roles, locations, or hours. Attend flexible schedule including day, evening, and weekend hours. Ability to travel as needed. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from a regionally accredited or registered college or university with an associate degree AND one (1) year of work experience related to programming, community engagement, and outreach, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience. Special Requirements Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Background Check An SBI background check with fingerprinting is required and employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared. In accordance with Section 28 of the Orange County Code of Ordinances, and/or relevant State and Federal statutes, candidates for employment may be required to undergo fingerprinting and a criminal history background check based on the job responsibilities of the position. A fingerprinting check is conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and a criminal history background check is conducted by an authorized Federal or State regulatory agency to determine eligibility for appointment. Employment is contingent upon successful clearance through these checks.
