Elder Care Provider Wanted - Seeking Senior Care Provider

ElderCare.com

Mom turned a young 99 on July 1st!! She is alert and cognitive. Her sense of humor is quite refreshing. She likes to watch the news, sporting events and Jeopardy. She used to have blooms everywhere and was quite fond of her flowers. Our mom is easy to care for, in that she is a pleasant and kind lady. She is non-ambulatory and at this time bed ridden. Needs full assistance to and from medical Appointments. A transport chair is used. Mom is (dizzy) 100% of the time now. Fluid has accumulated behind her RIGHT eardrum (again) which hinders her hearing in the ear she can still hear with. Possible return to ENT. To be determined at a later date, if the trip is warranted. She has NO hearing in her LEFT ear. This hearing loss is NOT something a hearing aid can help. Please speak in a normal tone to her right ear. TV will be loud. She is very independent thinking, and realizes she needs help with getting her days started and with meals and her evenings. We are looking for someone to prepare and serve breakfast, set lunch out and then dinner may be a heated, Pre-made (homemade) freezer meal. There will be errands such as shopping for groceries or medication etc. Transportation to her medical Appointments, which are in Astoria or Warrenton. ******* MOM'S WEAKNESS HAS INCREASED. SHE IS NOW NEEDING HELP WITH ALL ADL'S, BATHING, FOOD PREP AND ERRANDS. AS WELL AS SECURING THE HOUSE AT NIGHT

SOME DAYS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS

This is a 'changing' situation in terms of Mom's needs and level of care. Mom is still, and will remain in control of herself, her medications, her home and what is needed. ***Due to her changing needs, some duties may not be needed, Some may be added, and existing ones may be increased......

Help Mom get ready for the day. Make & serve breakfast, make & set lunch out (usually 1/2 sandwich and a small side dish. Mom needs full peri care twice a day, everyday. She uses pull ups and a cream to prevent sores. (PRESENTLY, she is battling a rash.) This includes keeping her skin clean and dry as much as possible. Mom will inform when she needs a bedpan placed. Extreme attention is given to this by Mom not to soil herself or her bedding. She also needs someone to perform light housework, dusting, daily sweeping of the kitchen floor, mop the kitchen floor (when needed) or once a week, clean the bathroom (toilets, sink/counter areas) Daily. (Mirror weekly). Pullups taken to the garbage and replace bag, when full. A bath once a week, or sooner if needed. She will ask to have her hair washed. PM SHIFT

***HOURS***

6:00PM - 7:00P

Monday - Sunday

**DUTIES**

Check for mail. Decide with Mom what she wants for dinner. My sister and I do our best to keep dinners available for Mom. Please wipe kitchen counters and the stove top with a soapy washcloth. Dishwasher is not run. Please use the food cover when using the mucrowave. Take garbage out. Cell phone, charged daily please. The PM shift is responsible to make sure the house and garages are shut down for the night. This also entails securing windows and closing blinds. Checking the furnace setting, Mom will tell you what the thermostat should be for evenings. Making sure all doors (including garages) are closed and locked for the night. **The pull-up disposal can (in her bathroom) has a bag that needs to be removed (when full) zip tied off and replaced by pulling another length down. The Bathroom cans and the trash by Mom should be emptied into the kitchen container nightly. If the kitchen is full, please take to the garage. Make sure Mom's meds have been taken. The eye drops at night are for glaucoma. These drops are kept in the refrigerator and will need to be given to her every night by caregiver and put back in the refrigerator. Mom orders and manages all aspects of her medication. Mom is NOT fond of water, so we put water in front of her at least twice a day. She does not want ice cubes. Room temp water only, or hot. Mom will direct laundry frequency and what is to be washed together. (Or not) With Mom's changing needs, Some procedures may need to be updated. Above all, Mom is a a very kind woman who is having mobility issues that prevent her from the active life she has led for many, many years. She has always been hands-on. Her sense of adventure was something to see. She was always 'game' for just about everything!!! From clam digging, to salmon fishing over the bar to hiking up a mountain, So, to be non-ambulatory at this time in her life is extremely frustrating and disappointing for her. The distress from the constant dizzy state creates a very worn out Mom. Hopefully, my continuing search through medical channels will find some relief for her.
