Ground Support Equipment Mechanic

Job Description

The GSE Mechanic inspects, maintains, and repairs ground support equipment and related facilities to ensure safe, reliable support for aviation operations. This role diagnoses and corrects issues with diesel engines, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems, while establishing and executing a preventative maintenance program for the site’s equipment and fuel farm. The GSE Mechanic collaborates closely with operations and line service teams to keep equipment in optimal condition and to uphold high standards of safety, compliance, and customer service.

Shift: 6am - 3pm (M/F)

Pay: $25 - 31/hr (DOE)

Responsibilities

• Inspect ground support equipment to identify defective or broken parts and determine appropriate repairs.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components on ground support equipment.
• Comply with and enforce company policies and procedures related to GSE standards, safety, and security.
• Establish, implement, and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for the site’s fleet of ground support equipment and fuel farm.
• Perform timely repairs on downed equipment to minimize operational disruptions.
• Maintain adequate stock of necessary parts and fluids in alignment with the preventative maintenance schedule and guidance from leadership.
• Oversee the quality control program in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
• Perform facility maintenance tasks as needed to support safe and efficient operations.
• Maintain organized inventories of parts, tools, and related maintenance materials.
• Promote a strong culture of safety and first-class customer service through daily observations, shift briefings, routine audits, use of safety management systems, and participation in regular service and safety meetings.
• Document maintenance activities, inspections, and safety procedures in compliance with aviation safety and technical manual requirements.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal customers and business partners to support operational needs.
• Operate a wide range of aircraft ground support equipment such as tugs, tow bars, GPUs, air start units, floor machines, belt loaders, lavatory carts, and forklifts.
• Support welding, fabrication, power generation, air start, and pneumatic system maintenance as needed.
• Travel internationally and domestically as required to perform maintenance and support missions in varied environments.
• Perform additional duties as directed by leadership to support overall operations and mission requirements.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of three (3) years of progressive management experience, including maintenance of FBO equipment.
• Demonstrated experience with GSE maintenance, including inspection, modification, and heavy checks such as C checks and D checks.
• Proven aviation experience, including familiarity with aircraft such as C-130 and PC-12.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
• Experience working with aviation safety requirements and adherence to technical manuals and documentation compliance.
• Hands-on experience with welding, fabrication, power generation equipment, air start systems, and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to operate a variety of aircraft ground support equipment, including tugs, tow bars, GPUs, air start units, floor machines, belt loaders, lavatory carts, and forklifts.
• Strong commitment to achieving results and maintaining high standards of equipment reliability and safety.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar computer applications.
• Physical ability to routinely lift 75 pounds, work in tight spaces, bend, kneel, stoop, crawl, climb frequently, and lift objects above the head.
• Ability to pull a 170-pound load over 50 feet and move 1 mile while carrying a 35-pound pack.
• Willingness and ability to travel 35% to 50% of the time, including international travel for extended periods under challenging conditions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Customer service experience, particularly in aviation or related environments.
• Prior FBO or aviation experience.
• Forklift experience preferred.
• Familiarity with safety management systems and participation in service and safety meetings.
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal customers and business partners.
• Comfort working with technical manuals, aviation documentation, and regulatory compliance requirements.

Work Environment

This role involves working in a dynamic aviation environment with frequent international and domestic travel. International assignments may require extended stays in austere or sub-standard living conditions. Work may be performed in a wide range of environmental conditions, including hot temperatures above 90&degree;F, cold temperatures below 23&degree;F, high elevations, dusty environments, and stressful operational scenarios. The position requires extended and irregular hours to support mission needs and equipment readiness. You will work hands-on with ground support equipment, fuel farms, power generation units, air start and pneumatic systems, and various facility infrastructure. The role is physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, crawling, climbing, lifting heavy loads, and maneuvering equipment. Travel expectations range from 35% to 50% and include attendance at events, training sessions, and symposiums. Safety procedures, technical manuals, and aviation standards guide daily activities, and you will operate within a structured maintenance and safety program focused on reliability and compliance.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of CRESTVIEW, FL.

The pay range for this position is $25.25 - $31.15/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
