Position Description

Position Summary

The Paint Prep/Painter roles play a key part in the overall production operation. The primary duties include prepping and applying various coatings to beams, trusses, and other various types of structural steel, equipment, buildings, and other structural surfaces using airless high pressure systems, brushes, and rollers. May mix colors or oils to obtain desired color or consistency.

Essential Duties, Skills, Abilities

• • Ability to receive feedback and learn from others.
  • Apply paint, enamel, epoxy and various other coatings to various types of structural steel and components using airless high-pressure spray equipment.
  • Read production prints or receive instructions from supervisors in order to determine work requirements.
  • Mix epoxy and other coatings with thinning and drying additives in order to obtain desired consistency.
  • Able to gauge depth of paint being applied, so that it meets customer specifications.
  • Able to use depth gauge equipment to measure paint.
  • Hand paint nooks and crannys that aren't able to be reached with sprayer.
  • Clean off beams by blowing off and/or scrapping bb's off
  • Work with needle gun and grinder to prep metal

Position Requirements

Technical Skills 1. Understanding and usage of wet film gages2. Application of alkyd, epoxy, zinc-based, high performance coatings3. Basic understanding of taping areas with no waste and of large areas.4.Ability to read and understand paint product data sheets and COC's5. Ability to perform advanced spray techniques in coating operations (AESS, trusses, complex geometry, etc....)6. Basic knowledge of hazardous materials usage and related environmental issues7. Understanding of NP and NTC areas8. All repair work meets Quality Control and customer standards Quality and Safety Skills 1. Quality of work performed meets customer's and company's requirements2. Follows all safety requirements when prepping the product3. Uses required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) when and where required4. Lifts, moves, and sets up material (under 75lbs) in a safe efficient manner.5. Knowledge of environmental hazards and what action to take if exposed6. Safe operation of overhead crane and associated lifting devices

Requirements and Qualifications

• • Paint Prep or Painting experience preferred.
  • Experience with airless high pressure systems a plus.

Sense of Touch

Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Respirator, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, protective paint

uniform, safety gloves, metatarsal guard)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Ability to work in conditions of 50 degrees - 100 degrees.

Not allergic to paints and chemicals in the department.

Able to work in an environment that has paint and thinner fumes.

Able to work in an environment that has some welding fumes.
