Advanced Medical Support Assistant DutiesThe Advanced MSA can function independently, carrying out a variety of duties. The Advanced MSA has advanced knowledge of scheduling appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA National scheduling guidelines and facility policies. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to:Scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consultsEntering no show informationMonitoring of reports; preparing for clinical visitsMonitoring outpatient appointments for areas of responsibilityReceiving phone callsEntering patient contact notes and delivering to proper personnelVerifying and updating demographics and insurance informationProcessing all emergency and nonemergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals.Perform front desks duties, receive telephone calls, and visitors to the medical facility.The Advanced MSA will utilize a variety of patient data systems in scheduling patients for treatment and annotate in patient records. Advanced MSA will use the ISS, VISTA, CPRS, Insurance Capture Buffer (ICB), Consult Tracking Manager (CTM), Outlook e-mail and other programs as needed, including the keyboard, printer, copier, and fax machine. The Advanced MSA answers questions and provides information and daily activities to include the following items listed below. The Advanced MSA will operate with little direct supervision.
