Financial Analyst

Job Overview The Village of Arlington Heights is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical professional to join its Finance Department as a Financial Analyst . This position plays an important role in supporting the Village’s financial operations through budget analysis, accounting, payroll support, and financial reporting. The Financial Analyst contributes to sound financial management and data-driven decision-making to support the delivery of high-quality municipal services. Responsibilities Work closely with Finance Department staff and other Village departments to analyze financial data, identify trends, and support operational and budgetary decisions. Research and evaluate financial information, monitor revenue and expenditures, prepare reports and presentations, track operational metrics, and support the Village’s annual audit process. Perform accounting functions including preparing journal entries, reconciling financial transactions, and maintaining records. Support weekly payroll processing and serve as a backup to the Payroll Coordinator. Contribute to annual filings, financial reporting requirements, and special projects as needed. Play an active role in continuous improvement efforts by evaluating financial processes, leveraging technology to enhance tools and workflows, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and decision-making. Qualifications Associate degree or two years of college coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field is preferred. At least two years of relevant professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong analytical, accounting, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial information. Attention to detail, strong mathematical aptitude, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality. Compensation and Benefits The anticipated starting salary for this position is between $82,190 – $84,464, depending on qualifications, with a full salary range of $82,190 – $110,956. The Financial Analyst will work a 37.5-hour work week and is offered a competitive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, paid vacation, professional development opportunities, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan.
