• Provide In-House OB/GYN Hospitalist Coverage
• Manage Labor and Perform Deliveries
• Provide Coverage for the OB Emergency Department and Labor & Delivery Units
• Rapidly Evaluate and Manage Obstetric Patients Presenting to the OB Emergency Department
• Initiate Care Within 30 Minutes
• Independently Assess Obstetric Patients
• Manage High-Acuity Obstetric Cases
• Coordinate Admissions and Transfers
• Coordinate Operative Care and Required Peer-to-Peer Communication
• Provide Antepartum, Intrapartum, and Postpartum Care for Unassigned and Transfer Patients
• Manage Labor Including Fetal Monitoring and Obstetric Procedures
• Assist With and Perform Deliveries
• Provide Courtesy Deliveries When the Primary OB/GYN Is Unavailable
• Serve as Clinical Lead During Obstetric Emergencies and Rapid Response Events
• Provide OB Consultations
• Provide Consultation and Delivery Planning for Patients Under Midwifery Care
• Provide Delivery Coverage for Higher-Risk and Complex Patients
• Cover Unassigned and Emergent Obstetric Patients
• Provide Vaginal Deliveries and Cesarean Sections
• Provide VBAC and Twin Deliveries
• Supervise Residents and Medical Students
• Maintain Accurate Documentation and Order Entry in Epic
• Support Maternity Transport Patients
• No Gynecologic Responsibilities

• Provider Is the Sole OB Physician Onsite During the 24-Hour Shift
• Residents Available Onsite
• MFM Available On Call
• Medical Imaging Available
• Laboratory Services Available
• Pharmacy Services Available
• No APP Supervision Required

• Board Certified in Obstetrics/Gynecology - Required
• Truly Board Eligible Candidates May Be Considered
• Active Iowa Medical License OR Active IMLC With Letter of Qualification - Required for 2026 Coverage
• New Iowa License Candidates May Be Considered for 2027 Coverage
• At Least 2 Years of Clinical Experience in Obstetrics/Gynecology - Required
• Provider Cannot Be Local to the Des Moines Area - Required
• Exact Coverage Dates and Average Number of Shifts Available Per Month Must Be Provided at Time of Presentation
• Self-Query NPDB Report Dated Within the Current Month - Required at Presentation
• Malpractice and Background History Must Meet Facility Requirements
• Candidates Must Not Have 2 or More Claims Filed Within the Previous 5 Years
• Candidates Must Not Have an Adverse Settlement or Judgment Exceeding $250,000 Within the Previous 5 Years
