About the Position

Job Title: Correctional Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Correctional Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Pending license accepted Certifications: BLS, ACLS, MOAB (facility will provide) Must-Have: MOAB certification; must pass facility background check Description: No locals within a 100-mile radius. Must be able to pass a facility background check. MOAB certification is required; if the traveler does not already have it, they will receive a 4-hour de-escalation course during the first week. If they do not pass, their contract may be subject to cancellation. COVID vaccine is optional; documentation must be provided. The facility has a capacity of approximately 1,900 inmates, with a current average daily population of around 1,640. Different areas exist, so it is difficult to determine an average number of patients seen. The RN will provide patients with routine and emergency healthcare. The RN will conduct health assessments and make referrals to providers, including detoxification, dental, and mental health professionals. The RN will be responsible for triaging and assessing new patients to the facility, conducting detox rounds per protocol. First-timers are accepted; prior experience is preferred. The RN will be responsible for urgent care and sick calls in the pods. Special skills required include phlebotomy, starting IVs, and non-invasive airway management. The RN must be proficient in isolation precautions and wound care. There may be a requirement to float between different areas, including detox, medical intake, and behavioral health. The patient population consists of adults and geriatrics. Daily census fluctuates between 1,800 and 1,950. Special procedures and support involve interpretation services, phlebotomy, and rapid response teams. The contract length is a minimum of 10 weeks, with extensions available. After four consecutive assignments or one year, a six-month break from travel contracts is required. Preferred RTO is max 7 days, with no RTO during the first 7 days or last day of the contract. Clinical experience in corrections, emergency, or medical-surgical settings is necessary to be considered for the role.
