Fleet Mechanic Mechanic II (Heavy)
Are you passionate about keeping engines running and equipment in top shape? The City of Stockton's Fleet Division, Public Works Department is looking for skilled and dedicated professionals to join our team.
In this journey-level role, you'll put your expertise to work maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles and equipment from everyday service vehicles to heavy-duty construction and maintenance equipment that keeps our city running.

Incumbents in this position are included in the Civil Service system, in a "for-cause" employment status, and are represented by Operating Engineers' Local 3, Trades and Maintenance Unit (Classified/Represented). This recruitment is being conducted as an Open/Promotional recruitment. Current full-time City of Stockton employees may apply for this position as a promotional opportunity and successful candidates will be placed on a promotional list. All other candidates may apply for this position as an open competitive opportunity and successful candidates will be placed on an open list. The appointing authority will have the option of requesting names from the promotional list or a combination of both. These lists may be used to fill future vacancies.
Prior to appointment, eligible candidates will be required to submit to and successfully pass a medical examination to include drug screen and back evaluation and a background investigation, which will include fingerprinting.
The Supplemental Questionnaire is part of the examination process; accordingly, it should be completed carefully. It must be submitted with your official employment application. Do not indicate "see resume" as an answer to any of these questions.
One of the requirements of this position is to lift and remove or install parts weighing up to 50 pounds. Do you understand this requirement?
