Community Disaster Program Specialist

Job Description Joining the American Red Cross is an opportunity to be part of the world’s largest humanitarian network. This role supports disaster response operations in Rancho Cucamonga, Victorville, CA, and surrounding communities. Job Overview As a Community Disaster Program Specialist you will guide, lead, and support teams of trained volunteers to deliver comfort and care during disasters. You will create and sustain a strong volunteer engagement foundation, collaborating with volunteer services staff, and ensuring the communities we serve are prepared for emergencies. Regional disaster employees are required to deploy to disaster relief operations outside of their region at least once a year. Deployments build skill, career development, and exposure to various disaster types. Employees must meet all training and physical capacity requirements for deployment. This position is not eligible for relocation assistance and serves the Rancho Cucamonga, Victorville, CA area. Salary range (CA): $70,304 – $72,000. Final compensation may be influenced by skills, experience, and comparisons to other employees in this role. Key Responsibilities Empower volunteers by facilitating and supporting a diverse team responsible for volunteer‑led disaster cycle services, ensuring rapid, accessible, and equitable delivery to frontline communities. Support program activities and functions within an assigned geographic area, ensuring successful implementation of disaster cycle services. Engage disaster volunteers who are the primary workforce, promoting cultural and linguistic relevance. Mobilize communities and partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies. Implement plans to meet volunteer engagement targets and support Disaster Action Team response to local hazards. Act as the local point of contact for partners and communities, collaborating with local organizations and leaders. Participate in regional disaster response operations upon completion of required training. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience. Travel: May be required. Drivers license: Valid license with a clean record. Required Skills and Abilities Coordinate staff and volunteer activities. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Record of collaboration with diverse groups and community representatives, managing multiple priorities, facilitating problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to work outside regular hours, including nights and weekends. Residency Requirements Chapter‑based positions: Expected to work daily in assigned geographic area to engage and mobilize communities and support volunteers. Regional positions: Expected to work daily within region’s geographic area to provide leadership, functional support, and community engagement. Physical Requirements The role requires regular sitting, use of hands, talking, hearing, reaching, occasional standing, walking, kneeling, and moving up to 30 pounds. Vision and workspace conditions are typical of office environments. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
