Project Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a Project Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting a major industrial construction project in Wheatfield, IN. This on-site role is ideal for an engineering or construction management professional with experience in heavy industrial, power plant, infrastructure, or large-scale construction environments.

The Project Engineer will support field execution, contract administration, cost tracking, quality control, schedule updates, documentation, and coordination across multiple disciplines including civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes. Key Responsibilities

- Support the on-site construction management team with field execution, project coordination, documentation, and daily project activities.
- Monitor contract performance, scope, schedule, cost, quality, and milestone adherence to ensure project requirements are met.
- Review plans, specifications, drawings, submittals, RFIs, NCRs, quality requirements, and technical documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Track project costs, productivity, quantities, billings, invoices, change orders, claims, forecasts, and monthly cost reporting.
- Inspect construction progress and verify conformance with engineering plans, specifications, construction standards, and safety requirements.
- Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, action item logs, project correspondence, quality procedures, reports, presentations, and project control documentation.

Compensation and Benefits

- Pay range: $35 to $55 per hour.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Support field execution for a large industrial construction project.
- Manage project documentation, cost tracking, schedule updates, quality control, and contract administration activities.
- Coordinate with construction management, project controls, suppliers, owners, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with RFIs, NCRs, submittals, working drawings, change orders, claims, reports, and project meeting documentation.

- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a similar field preferred.
- 3-5+ years of related project engineering, construction management, or heavy industrial construction experience.
- Experience with large, complex projects involving internal and external costs, labor and non-labor cost components, schedules, and contract requirements.
- Experience building or managing heavy industrial work, industrial facilities, infrastructure, or power generation projects.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, construction drawings, design documents, schedules, diagrams, business reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Working knowledge across multiple construction disciplines including civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes.
- Strong ability to monitor contracts, analyze cost and productivity data, prepare projections, and support project controls.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and project stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience building combined cycle or simple cycle power plants.
- General contracting experience in a previous role.
- Heavy industrial construction experience.
- Experience supporting quality control or quality assurance processes on large construction projects.
- Experience with project cost control, progress billing, change order coordination, claims support, and schedule forecasting.
