Position Overview

Our organization is seeking applications for the role of Division Director within the Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (NDBP) at the Department of Pediatrics. We invite candidates who hold Board certification in Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP), Neurodevelopmental Disability (NDD), General Academic Pediatrics, or Clinical Psychology (PhD), particularly those with a focus on children with disabilities, including autism and complex care. This position is available at the Associate or Full Professor level.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the vision and objectives for the NDBP, ensuring alignment with the overall strategic goals of the Department of Pediatrics and UVA Health Children's.
• Lead faculty in all areas of clinical and academic missions, encompassing clinical services across three care tracks: motor/medical complexity, autism and developmental differences, and at-risk child and family contexts.
• Oversee the education of trainees at various levels, including the well-established DBP fellowship program.
• Drive research program development and manage administrative functions for all NDBP initiatives.

Academic Duties

• Supervise all divisional faculty, fostering their professional growth through development opportunities.
• Ensure high-quality training and support for research activities.
• Promote a culture of inquiry to engage faculty in quality improvement, scholarly excellence, and innovation across all missions.

Administrative Duties

• Create an environment that encourages excellence and innovation in clinical practice, leading to positive patient outcomes.
• Collaborate closely with the School of Education to maintain a cutting-edge multi-tier autism assessment program.
• Provide leadership and faculty support for the Blue Ridge LEND program.

We prefer candidates with an active research agenda. The ideal applicant will be a well-established academic in DBP, NDD, General Academic Pediatrics, or hold a PhD, with significant interdisciplinary leadership and clinical experience in motor, cognitive, and at-risk disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders.

The NDBP division plays a crucial role in the successful HRSA-funded interdisciplinary training grant, Blue Ridge Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND). The division receives over $1 million in state funding to support the Virginia Mental Health Access Program, which includes training for primary care providers in autism assessment. Additionally, the division has a strong partnership with the pediatric psychology service, which has recently expanded to include a new clinic location.

Community Engagement

Community outreach and collaboration are essential priorities for us. A significant portion of NDBP patients are publicly insured, and we have bilingual capabilities among our MD and PhD staff. Our team collaborates with a family navigator, licensed clinical social worker, educational consultants, and therapy services (PT, OT, SLP, nutrition) within a Department of Pediatrics that encompasses 18 divisions/sections, as well as Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, pediatric surgery, neurosurgery, neurology, and urology services. We are dedicated to improving the lives of children and youth with developmental disabilities and their families through our roles as academicians, evidence-based practitioners, educators, scientists, and advocates. Faculty members in our division have held leadership positions at international, national, and state levels.

Qualifications

This position is open to individuals with MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent degrees. Candidates may apply for either tenure or non-tenure tracks at the professor or associate professor level, as appropriate. Applicants must be board certified or eligible in Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP), Neurodevelopmental Disability (NDD), or General Academic Pediatrics.
