Lead Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary & Responsibilities Lead Mechanical Engineer – onsite at one of these locations: Lebanon Junction, KY; Versailles, KY; or Chelsea, MI. Sheridan Lebanon Junction, a CJK Company, provides high‑quality publication and book printing services. We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to work onsite at the mentioned locations. The role involves leading a small team of machinists, fabricating and designing parts for equipment, managing a department, and ensuring production processes. Responsibilities Manage a small team of machinists, coaching, setting priorities, and meeting department expectations. Utilize the company maintenance system to identify “high volume” items that can be produced internally, understand reorder quantities, and determine minimum inventory for a central location. Machine parts to specifications using lathes, milling machines, grinders, and train team members to use this equipment. Efficiently and accurately produce parts: determining appropriate machine tools, cutting strategies, feed rates, material removal, tool selection, operation sequencing, monitoring and controlling speed, ensuring lubrication and cooling, regulating temperature. Set up, adjust, or operate specialized machine tools for precision machining and train others. Measure, examine, or test completed units for defects and conformance to specifications using precision instruments such as micrometers. Review electronic or written blueprints or specifications. Maintain a safe and clean work environment, comply with OSHA standards, and keep equipment up to code. Act as a positive role model, living Sheridan’s core values. Perform other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications Associate’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and five years of related experience. Experience supervising or leading a small team. Knowledge of CAD and scanning equipment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Ability to lead our CNC internal program. Demonstrated experience reverse engineering parts from physical samples. Working knowledge of FDM 3D printing: machine operation, slicer software, material selection, troubleshooting. Knowledge of machines and tools, including design, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for effective manufacturing and distribution. Expertise with machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders. Ability to work independently with little direction and follow up to complete assignments. Ability to demonstrate practical and technical knowledge of the job, including work instructions, processes, equipment, and materials. Ability to complete required paperwork accurately and neatly following established procedures. Demonstrate initiative, creativity, teamwork, and compliance with company and environmental, health, and safety policies. Ability to direct others, train, and coach individuals. Ability to work collaboratively across the company at various levels. Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Physical Requirements Sit or stand for extended periods at a desk or workstation. Regular walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Basic hand‑eye coordination. Repetitive motions that may include wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Routine ability to lift or move loads up to 10‑20 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Travel Requirements Travel up to 25% of the time, may require overnight stays.
