Title: Direct Support Assistant Occupational Category: Health Care, Human/Social Services Salary Grade: 09 Salary Range: From $52,225 to $56,413 annually Employment Type: Full‑Time Appointment Type: Permanent Jurisdictional Class: Competitive Class Workweek: Variable 40 hours per week Workday: 12 AM to 12 AM, no flextime, mandatory overtime, no compressed workweek, no telecommuting Duties Office for People With Developmental Disabilities prioritizes the health and safety of 128,000 individuals with developmental disabilities receiving agency services. As a Direct Support Assistant, you will help individuals lead richer lives by: Providing supports and services. Advocating, encouraging, guiding, and teaching individuals to express personal choice. Ensuring community integration. Assisting with personal hygiene care, toileting, dining, dressing, meal preparation, lifts and transfers. Helping individuals participate in games and recreational programs. Coaching and encouraging individuals to develop daily living skills. Providing a clean, safe, and comfortable environment. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or an equivalency such as a GED or a Direct Support Professional (DSP) certificate from an accredited organization. Valid New York State driver’s license required throughout employment. Must meet physical and agility standards. Additional Comments This title is part of the NY HELPS program; positions may be filled non‑competitively and later converted to competitive status. Starting salary reflects hiring rate with geographic pay differential. Eligible current NY State employees may be appointed via Section 70.1. Preference will be given to OPWDD employees impacted by closures. All OPWDD employees must maintain eligibility for Medicare and Medicaid programs. Employees may be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness and other savings programs.
