Health Principal

In the role of Health Principal , you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of HDR’s Health sector in Southern California, contributing to our world‑renowned healthcare design practice. Business Development Strategy Drive development of business strategies for the health market sector by defining key priorities and identifying target clients in Southern California. Identify and develop strategic partnerships within or outside the health industry to support and achieve strategic business initiatives. Assist in defining and implementing health sector business development priorities. Participate in research, market, competitor trend analysis, predictive analytics, and network building. Coordinate regularly with the Managing Principal and the Regional Health Director on BD, marketing, and practice growth efforts; identify, qualify, and develop business leads. Develop effective capture plans to convert leads to wins and collaborate with local leadership to maximize BD and marketing effectiveness. Premarketing and Pursuits Processes Assist and coach pursuit teams in developing effective client capture plans, pre‑marketing strategies, and building relationships with target clients. Guide pursuit teams in proposal and interview preparation. Participate and support reviews for GNG, fee strategies, and alternative delivery projects. Lead and oversee analysis of RFQs and RFPs. Develop, craft, and write proposals; oversee preparation and timely completion of qualification packages and proposals. Lead the development of interview presentation strategies, messaging, and all team preparations for winning presentations. Client Relationships and Representation Develop and nurture strong relationships with key clients, including individual facilities, systems, and institutions in Southern California. Increase awareness and understanding within the community of HDR’s health practice through marketing communications and public engagement. Assist with strategy and content for external marketing communications, special initiatives, conferences, media relations, social media, design awards, and website content. Assist with strategy and content for internal marketing communications, annual meetings, regional BD calls, and knowledge sharing. Prepare articles, author white papers, and participate in periodical interviews on Healthcare topics. Sector Growth and Leadership Actively participate in identifying and evaluating new talent and provide input on the assessment of our health practice. Mentor and coach existing employees to increase performance and effectiveness of our overall practice. Collaborate with other health leaders, marketing staff, and design professionals to develop relationships and win work. Project Delivery Responsibilities Drive quality design, innovative planning, client service, and thought leadership on health projects. Lead projects as Principal‑in‑Charge or Healthcare Planning Principal to advise clients and add value to our service and the team. Provide insights and guidance to healthcare teams on health projects. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. 15 years related experience. Minimum 7 years project management experience. Registered Architect. Experience on large‑scale projects. Ability to lead a team on projects and make client presentations. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project). Extensive knowledge of local and regional market. Strong team leadership, mentoring, motivational/organizational, and people skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
