Job Description

The HVAC Technician Lead oversees the maintenance, repair, and service of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems while providing technical expertise and hands-on support. This role focuses on troubleshooting complex issues, ensuring reliable operation of equipment, and supporting a small, skilled HVAC team in a clean, well-organized environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform maintenance, repair, and service on commercial HVAC equipment and systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in commercial refrigeration HVAC systems, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
• Work with electrical systems, including 480V, to support HVAC and refrigeration equipment operation and repairs.
• Perform mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on a wide range of commercial HVAC and refrigeration components.
• Ensure all work meets safety standards, industry codes, and internal quality expectations.
• Use specialty tools and equipment to accurately diagnose system performance and make necessary adjustments.
• Collaborate with a team of HVAC technicians to coordinate workload and support team objectives.
• Document work performed, including repairs, parts used, and recommendations for ongoing maintenance.
• Provide reliable service coverage during standard working hours and participate in overtime work as needed.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and care for tools and equipment provided by the company.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5+ years of commercial HVAC experience.
• Strong commercial refrigeration HVAC experience (required).
• Universal refrigeration license (required).
• At least 2 years of experience working with electrical systems, including 480V.
• Proficiency in mechanical troubleshooting and repair of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Ability to perform service work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on accurate diagnosis and effective repair.
• Commitment to working safely around electrical and mechanical systems.

Work Environment

This is an hourly role based in a clean, well-maintained environment, working Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The HVAC team consists of approximately six technicians, creating a close-knit and collaborative atmosphere. The company supplies uniforms if desired, and the dress code allows for practical attire such as jeans, a t-shirt, and steel-toed boots. Technicians work with commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems and 480V electrical equipment, using company-provided specialty tools to perform their duties safely and efficiently.

This is a Permanent position based out of Des Moines, IA.

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $95000.00/yr.
