Environmental Engineer 2 (Public Health) (35 Hour)

IntroductionWe are seeking a skilled environmental engineering professional to support high‑quality, compliance‑focused infrastructure improvements across Connecticut.The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) is recruiting for an Environmental Engineer 2 to work within a unit tasked with developing an Alternative Treatment Systems (ATS) program within Regulatory Affairs Branch’s Environmental Health Section.Alternative treatment systems utilize advanced mechanical technologies that surpass conventional septic systems in treating wastewater and removing pollutants. This program will work closely with the Environmental Engineering Program. The ATS Program will address environmental and housing development needs in Connecticut and will help DPH assist with achieving the Governor's housing development goals and addressing the unique wastewater management challenges in underserved areas. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWEDCollege training in civil, chemical or environmental engineering may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.A Master's degree in civil, chemical or environmental engineering may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience working with Subsurface Sewage Installation or Alternative Treatment SystemsExperience working with Local Health DepartmentsExperience reviewing technical documents for consistency with policies, statutes, or regulationsExperience communicating technical information to peers, supervisors and managersExperience working in a regulatory capacityExperience presenting technical information to various audiencesExperience working in a team environmentSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
