Controller

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Controller to join an award-winning design firm in Manhattan. In this role, you will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, payroll processes, and providing financial updates to leadership. Responsibilities include: Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, including monthly project billing and daily collections. Manage payroll on a semi-monthly and bi-weekly basis Prepare financial statements and manage the monthly/annual close process Perform accurate and timely reconciliations of bank and general ledger accounts Ensure adherence to all financial and tax reporting/payment requirements, including state and federal tax filings Complete annual 1099 process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting for independent contractors. Collaborate with project leadership to review contract terms, payment schedules, and client billing Maintain safeguards for revenue, costs, and project and organizational budgets, ensuring alignment with actual expenditures Work with leadership to establish financial benchmarks, budgets, project monitoring, and reporting standards Develop and enforce internal controls to protect company assets and streamline policies, procedures, and workflows Support short- and long-term operational strategies Partner with leadership on budget projections, maintaining budget goals through proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions Provide financial updates to leadership by evaluating and reporting key data points Prepare reports and supporting documentation for external accountants Guide financial decisions by applying company policies to current economic conditions Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines Person Requirements Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or similar – preferred, but not essential 5+ years’ demonstrable experience in a financial control, accounting Experience with accounting software – QuickBooks, Deltek and Microsoft Excel.
