Director Of Health Information Management (HIM)The Director of Health Information Management (HIM) provides enterprise leadership over the medical record lifecycle and health information governance, including document scanning, indexing and quality controls, data integrity (chart corrections/amendments), patient portal request support (e.g., MyChart), and release of information (ROI). This leader is accountable for record availability, integrity, privacy, retention, and defensibility to support patient care, billing and appeals, audits, and legal requests - while advancing standardization, automation, analytics, and vendor strategy. The Director partners closely with Clinical leaders, Compliance/Privacy/Legal, Information Technology (IT), Revenue Cycle, and Coding/Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) to improve data quality, reduce operational friction, and manage risk.QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field required.• Master's degree preferred.• Experience: Minimum of 7 years of progressive Health Information Management (HIM) experience required.• Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in a manager-, director-, or other leadership-level role.• Experience in a complex hospital, health system, academic medical center, or multi-site healthcare environment preferred.• License/Certification/Registration: One of the following certifications is required:RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator)RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician)• Preferred certifications include:CHPS (Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security)CHDA (Certified Health Data Analyst)Other relevant HIM, privacy, informatics, or healthcare leadership certifications• Demonstrated expertise in:Team leadership and talent developmentCoaching, mentoring, and succession planningBuilding high-performing teams• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with:Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI)Health Information Management (HIM)Revenue IntegrityBilling OperationsInformation Technology (IT)• Executive-ready communication skills, including:Written communicationVerbal communicationFacilitation and presentation skillsExecutive stakeholder engagement• Strong change leadership and continuous improvement mindset grounded in data, analytics, and performance outcomes.• Demonstrated enterprise governance capabilities across the entire medical record lifecycle.• Strong privacy, compliance, and risk management orientation with sound judgment and decision-making skills.• Proven operational leadership experience in:High-volume service environmentsTime-sensitive workflowsComplex healthcare operations• Deep knowledge of:HIPAA privacy requirementsHIPAA security fundamentalsMedical record disclosure practicesProtected Health Information (PHI) management• Strong command of:Record retention requirementsLegal hold processesAudit response proceduresHealthcare documentation regulations• Expertise in:Release of Information (ROI) operationsMedical record documentation standardsDefensible release workflowsInformation governance best practices• Working knowledge of:Document management systemsImaging and scanning workflowsIndexing processesRecord integrity managementRecord corrections and amendments• Familiarity with:Patient portal request support operationsEpic MyChart functionalityService recovery best practicesPatient-facing HIM services• Experience with:HIM automation technologiesVendor management platformsWorkflow optimization tools• Strong analytics and reporting expertise, including the ability to monitor and manage:Throughput and turnaround timesOperational backlogsQuality metricsUnit-cost performanceOperational efficiency measures• Strong analytical, organizational, compliance, and leadership skills with a focus on operational excellence, information governance, patient privacy, and continuous improvement.
