Together, we can achieve great things.Testing Required:On-Site Role: Must be available to work on-site at this assigned work location.Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.Job SummaryFirst level supervisor responsible for planning and directing employees engaged in the operation, construction, maintenance, workload planning, dispatch and repair of the gas distribution system. Coordinates operations activities with other areas. Identifies and effectuates changes necessary to ensure continuous improvement in performance. Span of control: =5 jobs & 5-15 FTEs (direct & second-level).Key AccountabilitiesResponsible for planning, construction, maintenance, repair, and/or operation of gas systems; coordinates construction and maintenance activities with other areas.Supervises a group of technical crews in daily activities; ensures compliance with Operator Qualification, and Codes & Standards requirements.Plans, schedules, monitors, dispatches and controls work resources.Utilizes Lean Six Sigma elements or other continuous improvement tools to plan, execute and follow through on operations and improvements.Ensures the consistent application of applicable collective bargaining agreements.Administers safety programs and ensures safety standards are compiled within all work activities.Ensures continuous station productivity improvements through increased quality field time with crews; ensures that work crew productivity levels are maintained.Performs or ensures the accomplishment of the following core supervisory/management functions for a given group(s) within a business unit: planning, organizing, directing the performance of ongoing activities and/or special / ad hoc assignments, staffing (employee selection, training/coaching & performance management, time entry), coordinating, reporting & budgeting.Minimum Education & Experience RequirementsMinimum: this is a multiple-track base requirement job; education & experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following options:High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years of experience in Operations, OR;Associate's Degree and 4 years of experience in Operations, OR;Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of experience in OperationsOther QualificationsPreferred: Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Technical Field.Operations experience in Natural Gas or Utility industry.Analytical & problem-solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situationsOther Requirements:- Ability to travel & report for work at different locations (typically within the Corporation’s service area); incumbents may use their own vehicle or have access to a Company-provided vehicle. Individuals with access to Company vehicles must possess a valid driver’s (or ‘equipment- appropriate’) license, including any Company-determined certifications or endorsements. Must comply with any relevant Company driving / operating standards, and pass Department of Transportation drug screens; subject to random drug testing.- Provides leadership through example in a unionized environment, consistent with prevailing collective bargaining agreements (typically based on experience in a unionized environment).- Promotes an atmosphere conducive to the open exchange of new ideas, and alternatives to orthodox approaches.- Motivates through leading by example,’ coaching/mentoring and providing ongoing constructive feedback to subordinate staff; competent in systematically eliciting the best efforts & results from sub-ordinate staff.- Deals effectively with resistance; takes positive steps to avoid the recurrence of errors through constructive critique.- Knowledge of Michigan Gas Safety Code.Additional InformationIncumbents may engage in all or some combination of the activities and accountabilities, and utilize a variety of the competencies cited in this description depending upon the organization and role to which they are assigned.
