Position Overview The Assistant Project Manager supports the successful execution of projects by collaborating with project managers, cross‑functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders. This role assists in coordinating project activities, maintaining documentation, tracking progress, and ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. Responsibilities Work with the Project Manager, project team, and other management in all phases of a project. Ensure projects are set up correctly and proper tools are in place before the project begins. Secure necessary permits, contracts, insurance, and bonds before subcontractors perform work onsite. Lead the project team's work efforts in harmony with competing priorities. Provide leadership and guidance to assigned projects, ensuring objectives are achieved within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. Give work direction, prepare and distribute project schedules, and set deadlines for timely completion. Identify issues for early resolution. Determine and select corrective actions and work‑around solutions when deviations from the project plan occur. Inform the Project Manager and appropriate management of issues and remediation plans. Ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health rules, regulations, company policies, and procedures. Provide recommendations for improving tracking, reporting, and monitoring of projects. Assist in preparation of periodic management reports. Attend meetings on behalf of the Project Manager as needed. Train staff, evaluate performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action. Assist in providing technical assistance to ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., ASTM, ACI, ICC), specifications, and industry best practices. Prepare reports and technical documents for internal and external stakeholders. Participate in cross‑functional collaboration with engineering, laboratory, safety, and operational teams. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline; OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. For non‑degreed candidates: 3+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, or construction materials testing (CMT) and inspection. Certifications in relevant inspection or testing areas preferred (e.g., ACI, ICC, ATTI, Nuclear Safety). Strong knowledge of construction materials testing standards (ASTM, AASHTO, etc.) and ability to interpret technical specifications. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry‑specific platforms (e.g., project management, data reporting systems). Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills. Willingness to travel to job sites and work in diverse environmental conditions. Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and interface with clients and regulatory bodies effectively. Travel Requirements This position does not require regular travel as part of its primary responsibilities. However, occasional travel may be required, up to 10%, primarily for off‑site meetings, training sessions, or company events. Travel, when necessary, will be communicated in advance and aligned with business needs. Physical Demands & Work Environment The position operates in a hybrid work environment, requiring flexibility to work effectively from both a professional office and work site setting. On‑Site Office Requirements Work is performed at a desk for extended periods using a computer, phone, and standard office equipment in a climate‑controlled office environment. Regular in‑person communication with team members, clients, and stakeholders is required. Physical demands may include sitting for long durations, occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting of materials up to 15 pounds. Field Environment Work at outdoor sites including wetlands, forests, grasslands, construction zones, and undeveloped land. Travel on foot across uneven, rugged, or obstructed terrain, sometimes in areas inaccessible by vehicle. Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, humidity, rain, or sun. Possible presence of insects, animals, or natural and man‑made hazards in field environments. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry between 35–75 lbs. of equipment or samples over distances up to 75 feet. Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate lab and field equipment for extended periods. Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, climb, and balance as needed during both lab and fieldwork. Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats in varied environments, often while wearing PPE.
