Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking an Embedded FlightSoftware Engineer – Level 5 to join our team in Linthicum, MD.The software engineer will design, develop, integrate, and test software that manages a Space payload unit, ensuring compliance with established requirements. This includes conducting multidisciplinary research and collaboration with other disciplines in the planning, design, development, and utilization of data processing systems. Selected individuals will work on an agile development team, primarily using C++, Linux and/or Python. This role will support Payload and Ground Software Engineering Eastern Region in Linthicum, MD.The selected individual will conduct peer reviews of software-related products, software designs, and additional technical documents, as well as participate in a cross-functional scrum team. Successful candidates are expected to understand system requirements, how they apply to system design, and implement solutions to complex technical problems to accomplish program goals. Individuals must be self-starters, able to efficiently operate in a team environment, and work with consultative direction toward defined long-range goals and objectives. Existing engineering and system specialists will be consulted to assist with any activities associated with executing primary tasking. However, the selected individuals will be expected to prioritize and make recommendations to internal and external customers, as required, to implement tasking assigned.While not all positions will require an active clearance to start, all positions are contingent on the candidate’s ability to obtain and hold a Top Secret/SCI clearance.This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or another STEM discipline with a minimum of 12+ years software development experience working on embedded real-time systems or 10+ years with a Master’s Degree or 8 years with a Ph.D.Proficient in Object Oriented programming using C++Proficient in all areas of the formal software lifecycle process from requirements to testingExperience integrating low-level firmware and software in complex real-time multi-threaded embedded applicationsExperience integrating developed software applications, to include usage of tools and logs to examine data to verify correct operation and identify problem areasExperience and ability to mentor, review work products, and provide meaningful feedbackExperience in embedded software development and cross-compilingExperience developing in a Linux environmentExperience with using software configuration management toolsU.S. CitizenshipNo clearance is required to start, but you must have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance with SCIPreferred Qualifications:Experience as a member of an Agile Scrum teamExperience with developing software in PythonExperience in embedded C++ optimizationsFamiliarity with Linux kernel driver development/modificationsExperience debugging with GDBExperience with the Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket)Hands-on hardware integration and testing experienceAbility to debug complex integrated applications or test setup issuesActive TS/SCI ClearanceCurious about all the exciting developments with the Northrop Grumman Space Sector? Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
