Responsibilities Position patients on the examination table following specified protocol. Enter technical parameters such as radiation beam amount and quality into the computer system. Raise, lower, and manipulate the examination table and X‑ray tube in response to physician instructions. Start automatic injection of contrast medium into patient blood vessels. Monitor patients by observing gauges, records, and video screens of the multi‑channel data analysis system that indicate blood pressure, cardiac output, and respiration during imaging. Alert the physician to changes in patient responses. Preceptor students or trainees with assistance from higher‑grade staff. Perform quantitative coronary analysis and left‑ventricular function measurement. Scrub in and assist the physician in interventional procedures, including inserting balloons to remove plaque or other blockages. Remove intra‑arterial sheaths after procedures and document according to protocol. Order supplies and specialty products, interact with vendors, and negotiate pricing under the supervision of the Cath Lab Supervisor. Collect QA/QI data using ACC guidelines. Assist in emergency patient care, including CPR. Test emergency equipment and ensure inventoried supplies are available. Provide assistance during emergencies as needed and perform other related duties as required. Qualifications Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and disease processes. Knowledge of equipment, procedures, techniques, terminology, and understanding of cardiac testing. Skill in performing mathematical computations. Competence, including knowledge and behaviors, to meet the specific and cultural needs of all patient age groups. Ability to work quickly and accurately under stressful conditions. Knowledge of standard clinical laboratory procedures and safety practices. Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Skill in basic cardiovascular life support. Cardiovascular Technologist I: Two (2) years of experience in an invasive cardiac catheterization laboratory and certification eligible; obtain certification within six months of hire. Cardiovascular Technologist II: Four (4) years of experience in an invasive cardiac catheterization laboratory and certification eligible; obtain certification within six months of hire. Substitution allowed: Two years of experience in an invasive cardiac catheterization laboratory and successful completion of an accredited Registered Cardiovascular Program with certification as RCIS or equivalent. Preferred: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification. Working Conditions Incumbents are exposed to radiation scatter during fluoroscopy and angiographies and may be exposed to infection‑communicable diseases. Conditions may be moderately disagreeable.
