This position has a 37.50-hour work week. ABOUT US Sojourner House is a comprehensive domestic violence and sexual assault agency that provides residential, educational, and community-based interventions to families and individuals impacted by abuse. We have offices in Providence and Woonsocket, and programs that operate statewide. Our goal is to help our clients rebuild their lives, piece by piece, through a variety of services. All of our programs work from the premise that violence is an unacceptable means to solving interpersonal conflict, and we encourage only non-violent methods of working out conflicts. GENERAL FUNCTION The main function of the Legal Program Coordinator is to assist in the continued development of a comprehensive state-wide legal program to provide services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking in matters including but not limited to custody, child support, divorces, guardianship petitions, restraining orders, and other family law related legal matters. This role is based in Providence, Rhode Island. IMPORTANT: A writing sample is required for all applicants. Please see details in the To Apply section. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Update policies, procedures, and other internal systems consistently to improve efficiency of the program; Provide general project management to the legal program; Build and maintain relationships with organizations and assist with ongoing outreach efforts to under-represented groups (including the refugee population, undocumented victims, special immigrant juveniles, etc.); Prepare timely data and program reports as required for grant compliance with the OVW and any other grantors; Manage all intakes and scheduling for consultations; Manage all communication and document gathering for intakes/consults; Manage and organize all physical and electronic files for clients; Manage any intern communication, scheduling, task assignments and training; Assist Staff Attorney with client communications and reminders for upcoming hearings as needed; Assist the Staff Attorney with file preparation, file drafting and submission, legal research, as well as any other assigned casework; Assist the Staff Attorney in record and calendar keeping; Provide supportive services to clients such as safety planning and directing them to community resources as needed; Participate in the program evaluation process with the legal team; Other related duties as assigned; EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS A minimum of two years of experience working in family law (experience drafting motions, filing with the court, etc.) highly preferred; Experience providing services or managing programs that provide services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking preferred; Ability to speak English and Spanish fluently (both written and oral) is strongly preferred; Must be organized and detail-oriented; Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment; Ability to work as a team and with individuals across various departments; Excellent communication skills and a client-focused approach; Professional phone etiquette and demeanor towards clients and colleagues; Computer competency required (Word, Excel, Google Workspace and general online competency); Have familiarity working with individuals from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds; Have a demonstrated familiarity with underserved populations; Have a familiarity with social service services in Rhode Island; Applicant must pass a federal and multi-state background check if offered the position; Applicant must have a valid driver's license and reliable access to an insured vehicle they can use for work purposes. SCHEDULE, WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS This is a full-time, on-site position. Travel to other offices and agency-owned buildings throughout the state will be required. Occasional evening hours may be necessary to meet agency needs.
