Senior Fabricator (Union) – 1st Shift – Carpentry Location: Kansas City, MO, 64106 Role Summary The Senior Fabricator will produce components for multiple construction project types, including high‑level precision components and other specialized items. The role involves designing and building jigs and fixtures to create repeatable parts and supports the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn. Autonomy and Decision-Making: Follows directions and refers all exceptions to supervisor. Career Path: Prefabrication Foreman. Key Role Responsibilities – Core Operate automated equipment to produce specific-sized material using a cut list. Operate manual shop equipment to produce repeatable parts. Apply basic arithmetic to production activities, such as cutting parts to size or assembling multiple parts. Gather multiple components cut to specific sizes and assemble them into an end product. Package and load cut materials and assemblies for transport to project sites. Read and use a tape measure accurately. Maintain cleanliness of the shop, equipment, and common areas. Key Role Responsibilities – Additional Core Set up both automated and manual shop equipment for new operations. Set up jigs and fixtures to produce repeatable parts. Use measuring and marking devices to lay out parts and pieces for fabrication. Read and understand shop drawings, construction drawings, and other applicable drawings. Design and build jigs and fixtures to produce repeatable parts. Program automated equipment to produce complex repeatable parts. Apply basic trigonometry to determine angles from measurements. Direct and lead tasks for a small production team. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Perform work accurately, completely, and in a timely manner. Communicate verbally and in writing. Follow up on inquiries promptly. Identify common construction materials and shop equipment. Build relationships and collaborate within and outside the team. Education High School Diploma or GED (Preferred). Apprentice and/or Vocational/Technical/Trade training (Preferred). Equivalent relevant experience considered in lieu of the above. Experience 5+ years of commercial construction, manufacturing, or fabrication shop experience (Preferred). Working Environment Must lift at least 50 pounds. May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold). Maintenance facility environment with varying temperatures, moving equipment, noise, and exhaust fumes. Willingness to work non‑traditional hours and overtime as needed. Reliable transportation required. May need to use a respirator. Comfortable with working at heights and in narrow spaces. Environmental and physical requirements may vary by task. Frequent activities: standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, carrying, swinging, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling, balancing. Occasional activities: sitting, viewing computer screen.
