Maintenance Technician The Maintenance Technician maintains equipment and facilities to ensure safe, productive operations, supporting continuous improvement and plant reliability. Responsibilities Adhere to governmental regulations including National Electrical Code, EPA, UBC, and local agency policies. Follow plant and maintenance safety procedures: Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out, Arc Flash, Hot Work Permits. Assist with Permit Required Confined Spaces and alternate entry of re‑classified spaces. Follow GMPs in all assigned areas. Use appropriate PPE in compliance with OSHA and food handling requirements. Attend classes, seminars, and in‑house training to maintain skill level. Suggest improvements to optimize the maintenance program. Document planned and unplanned work findings via CMMS. Repair, install, fabricate, or modify parts, tools, and equipment; fabricate or modify machines to produce new products or improve existing ones. Perform preventative maintenance (PM), inspections, corrective repairs, special projects, and equipment rebuilds. Resolve equipment breakdowns and repairs. Apply root cause analysis (RCA), failure analysis (BDA), and cause mapping to identify and resolve equipment issues. Utilize predictive maintenance technologies such as ultrasound, thermal imaging, oil analysis, and vibration analysis. Document failure causes and coordinate with maintenance team, planner, supervisor, or other team members to prevent recurrence. Interpret factory manuals, blueprints, schematics, Single Line Electrical Drawings, P&ID, etc. Maintain and repair facility mechanical, electrical, and building systems. Perform maintenance on utility systems (heat, steam, electric power, gas, air). Educate operations team on autonomous maintenance concepts: Cleaning, Inspection, Lubrication (CIL). Perform other duties as required. Knowledge & Skills Interpret technical journals and provide detailed written or oral instructions, correspondence, and memos. Present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers and colleagues. Communicate professionally with all employee levels; work effectively in a team environment. Perform arithmetic calculations and use precision measuring equipment; convert measurements between feet/inches and decimals; interpret bar graphs. Use computer for data entry and documentation of maintenance findings; upload and download technical manuals and specifications via CMMS or internet. Demonstrate attention to detail, mechanical ability, and multi‑tasking; make good decisions under pressure. Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED; minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing facility performing mechanical and/or electrical inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs; pass plant‑specific maintenance test (or equivalent education and experience). Preferred Qualifications Some college or formal technical school education with aptitude and skills in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and welding techniques; at least two years of experience in a food manufacturing environment. Certifications Mechanical or electrical certifications/licenses preferred but not required. Valid Driver’s License. Forklift certification or ability to obtain forklift and aerial lift certifications. Physical Demands Frequent standing, walking, and occasional driving. Ability to lift up to 100 lbs, occasionally more with assistance. Using hands continuously. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, and stooping to reach overhead areas. Exposed to indoor and outdoor conditions, dust, noise, heat/cold. Work Environment Indoor facility with variable lighting, temperature, ventilation, vibration, and noise levels; subject to dust, heat/cold, and outdoor weather conditions. Compensation & Benefits Individual base pay depends on location and experience. Total pay may include other compensation forms.
