Work Environment This position is located in a dynamic hospital setting in Brooklyn, where you will interact with a diverse population of patients requiring rehabilitation services. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional flexibility to accommodate patient needs or clinic operations. This role requires you to be physically present on-site to facilitate direct patient care and collaborate seamlessly with physical therapists and other healthcare professionals. Key Responsibilities As a Physical Therapist Assistant, you will engage in a variety of critical tasks, including: Providing direct physical therapy services under the direction of a licensed physical therapist, ensuring adherence to individualized plans of care. Administering therapeutic interventions to alleviate pain, restore function, and maintain maximum performance in patients recovering from injury or illness. Guiding patients through active and passive therapeutic exercises and functional training, including muscle reeducation, gait training, and activities of daily living (ADLs). Using physical agents such as heat, cold, light, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation to support rehabilitation efforts. Monitoring and documenting patient progress, reactions to treatments, and any observed changes in condition, communicating these effectively to the supervising therapist. Educating patients and their families on the proper use and care of assistive devices, including wheelchairs, crutches, canes, and prosthetics. Completing clinical and conference notes in a timely manner to ensure comprehensive patient records. Participating in continuous education and professional development opportunities, as well as interdisciplinary team meetings to foster collaborative care. Engaging in quality improvement initiatives designed to enhance service and patient satisfaction. Performing additional duties as assigned to contribute to the overall function of the department. Patient Population / Client Focus Your role will focus on a diverse array of patients with varying conditions, ranging from post-operative rehabilitation to chronic pain management. You will be instrumental in helping patients of all ages restore their independence and improve their quality of life through tailored physical therapy programs. Qualifications The successful candidate must meet the following criteria: Graduation from an accredited physical therapy assistant program with an Associate's degree in a relevant field. Current certification or licensure as required by New York state laws. CPR certification must be maintained throughout employment. A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation that meets organizational standards. Preferred Experience A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant is preferred, demonstrating proficiency in various therapeutic techniques and an understanding of rehabilitation philosophies.
