Job Summary Incumbent in this position will provide direct primary health care services service via ambulatory clinic / long term care facility, telehealth, or home visit. Will examine and treat chronic and acute episodic illnesses, minor injuries, accidents, and other injuries/illnesses. Perform selected laboratory testing and interpret results.
Offer referrals to physicians, write prescriptions, and perform office procedures within the scope of expertise and protocols. Incumbent will also work with the physicians in the care and treatment of patients and staff. Performs other related duties as assigned. Job Duties & Responsibilities

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The noise level in the work environment is usually average. Conditions of Hire

- Performs medical procedures according to privileges issued.
- Examines and diagnoses health related conditions of individuals presenting themselves for acute outpatient care.
- Develops appropriate treatment plans, determines when patient referral to secondary / tertiary care or testing is required and assures adequate follow-up of these individuals.
- Provides health maintenance visits, evaluates for immunizations and provides anticipatory guidance and referrals; performs physical examinations as DOT, Head Start, employment, etc.; performs STD (sexually transmitted disease) family planning screening and education, physical examinations (pap tests, etc.) and employee wellness screening.
- Examines staff after on-the-job accidents or injuries. Completes necessary records pertaining to professional activities.
- Manage chronic care patients within guidelines of the clinic and with the assistance of the physician staff.
- Consults with other members of the medical staff regarding specific treatments, diagnosis, and other professional matters.
- Completes necessary records pertaining to professional activities.
- Serves on standing committees to review and analyze the clinical functions, and ensure compliance with established clinical, AAAHC accreditation standards, and general professional standards.
- Makes clinical presentations at staff meetings as assigned.
- In conjunction with other medical / pharmacy / dental staff, assist with development of the appropriate formulary for the clinic.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of nursing principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
- Knowledge in the general concepts, principles and practice of Nurse Practitioner.
- Skills in conceptual thinking and orderly planning in the diagnosis treatment of patients.
- Ability to use protocols to assess and treat minor illness.
- Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) Tribal culture and lifestyle, working effectively with AI/AN populations.
- Effective oral and written communication skills with sensitivity to the lifestyles of targeted participants.
- Skills in operating personal computers using a variety of computer software.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal and tribal privacy laws and KIC policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
- Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as with teams.

- May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license or capable of obtaining one, as well as be insurable by KIC's company insurance.
- KIC is a Drug-Free Workplace. All employees must adhere to KIC drug and alcohol policies and procedures to ensure a safe workplace. Employees must pass a pre-employment and subsequent random and/or for-cause drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment.
- KIC has several positions that must comply with the P.L. 101-630 Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act (ICPA); all employment offers in the "covered" classification are conditional until KIC has received a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in these programs.
- Current unrestricted Registered Nurse License in the State of Alaska.
- Master's Degree from an Accredited Nursing Program.
- National certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) to practice medicine in the State of AK.
- Current DEA, CPR, and ACLS certification.
- Must be able to meet and maintain current KICTHC credentialing and privileging requirements.
- Proof of valid driver's license with acceptable driving record (when DL is required for the job).
- Two (2) years family medicine experience.
- Experience in community clinic preferred and a strong commitment to multi-disciplinary teamwork.
