Job Description

The Observation unit provides care for adult patients requiring additional monitoring to assess whether their condition necessitates hospital admission or if they can be safely treated and discharged home. This unit operates in a fast-paced environment, handling an average of 20 to 27 patients per day, with an average length of stay of 27 hours. The unit is staffed with 24/7 provider coverage, catering to a diverse adult population that includes both emergency observation and admitted boarding patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver patient-centered care in a high-volume observation unit.
• Monitor and assess patients to determine the appropriate course of action regarding their admission or discharge.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
• Document patient information and care accurately in compliance with facility protocols.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.

Job Requirements

• Current RN License in New York State.
• Minimum of two years of Med/Surg experience.
• Telemetry experience is required.

Certifications

• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale certification.
• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Schedule

This position requires flexibility to work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
