Position Overview: The position of Utilities Superintendent position is a full time positon and has the direct responsibility for personnel, equipment, scheduling, safety and quality of assignments. The Superintendent will supervise multiple crews, and occasionally subcontractors on the installation and construction of water and sewer projects. This position requires a degree of experience to ensure that projects are completed on-time and within the estimated budget.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop a thorough understanding of the project plans, specifications and schedules as they relate to the work assigned. Review with crews throughout the project to ensure proper execution. Ensure project specific needs are acquired prior to work starting.
• Plan and coordinate delivery of materials needed to assure that an adequate supply of tools, materials and equipment are available.
• Examine/inspect field conditions and identify conditions, problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed.
• Inspect work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and take any corrective action needed.
• Track and capture quantities completed on the project and review for accuracy.
• Monitor quality of work and assure that correct construction procedures are followed and that work is in compliance with the plans and specifications
• Monitor productivity rates and review with crews.
• Manage crew to ensure productivity requirements are maintained or exceeded.
• Have a working knowledge of scheduling, material control, unit man hour performance.
• Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards to prevent re-work
• Trains, develops, and monitors the safety practices (including PPE) of employees through regularly scheduled safety meetings, one on one development, reminders and disciplinary action, if necessary
• Identify safety hazards and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
• Follows all company policies
• Ensures compliance of production staff with all company policies and procedures, OSHA, EPA, and NCDOT guidelines
• Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
• Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
• Enforces all client required safety policies and procedures
• Attends meetings as required
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Maintains good relations with general public, engineers, architects, inspectors and customers to facilitate job progress and promote a positive company image

Education and/or Experience:
• High School Diploma/General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
• Seven (7) to Ten (10) years of related experience preferred.
• Combinations of work experience and education may be considered
• Advanced understanding of construction scheduling, cost control and ability to control and supervise groups

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
• OSHA 10 or 30 hour
• Trenching safety and confined space certification
• First Aid/CPR training
• Current North Carolina Driver's License

• Able to read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence, and memos.

Physical Demands
• Extensive physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature. Includes standing, sitting stooping, bending and crouching for extended periods of time.
• Able to walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
• Capable of lifting up to 70 pounds.
• Visual accuracy under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions in order to provide safe directions for operators of heavy equipment and other employees.
• Able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment, and in and out of excavations, up to 20 feet in height.
• Able to work overtime and weekends, if necessary.
• Able to travel when required.

Environment Working Conditions
• Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (i.e., rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.)
• Noise level in the work environment is loud.
• Exposure to dust, grease, gasoline, diesel fuel, concrete, and other environmental factors of a construction job site.
• Work is performed near heavy equipment, moving machinery, and uneven surfaces.
