Safety Compliance Manager

The Safety Compliance Manager leads and coordinates safety initiatives that support the AGC San Diego Chapter and its member contractors. This role serves as a key liaison between AGC San Diego and AGC of America on safety matters while promoting best practices that improve jobsite safety, regulatory compliance, and workforce education across the construction industry. The Safety Compliance Manager oversees safety committee operations, manages industry safety programs and competitions, supports safety communications, and collaborates with the AGC San Diego Safety Training Center to ensure training programs reflect current industry and regulatory needs. This position requires a collaborative leader who is passionate about construction safety and committed to elevating safety culture throughout the industry. This role is designed for a highly experienced safety professional who has spent years in the field and wants to bring that knowledge into a role focused on mentorship, education, and industry impact. The Safety Compliance Manager will work directly with contractors, apprentices, and safety professionals to strengthen safety culture across the region. AGC San Diego serves a diverse construction workforce. Specific Duties: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Safety Program Leadership Promote a strong culture of safety across the AGC San Diego membership. Serve as a leader and role model for construction safety excellence. Assist in identifying emerging safety trends, regulatory updates, and industry needs affecting AGC members. Provide safety audits of AGC San Diego headquarters and training center. Any and all other duties as assigned AGC Safety Committee Oversight Oversee and coordinate the monthly AGC San Diego Safety Committee meetings. Develop meeting agendas and facilitate meaningful industry discussion on safety challenges and solutions. Coordinate with industry professionals on speakers and demonstrations for the meeting. Engage safety professionals from AGC member companies to participate in committee initiatives. Industry Safety Communications With the assistance of the Director of Workforce Development, develop weekly safety content for AGC’s newsletter, the Monday Morning Quarterback (MMQB), and any related social media or newsletter updates. Provide safety updates, regulatory alerts, best practices, and safety resources relevant to AGC members. Develop and host a bi-weekly safety update for the AGC San Diego podcast focused on industry safety trends, regulatory updates, contractor best practices, and safety leadership discussions. Develop and coordinate annual safety events relevant to the construction industry including safety forums, workshops, and industry awareness initiatives. Lead planning and execution of the Annual AGC Safety Summit / Safety Day, designed to promote safety awareness and provide hands‑on learning opportunities for contractors and safety professionals. Industry Events & Programs Develop and coordinate annual safety events relevant to the construction industry including safety forums, workshops, and industry awareness initiatives. Coordinate Safety Summit/Safety Day programming that may include safety stand‑down events, equipment demonstrations, federal contractor safety workshops, fall protection rescue demonstrations, and emerging technology demonstrations for construction safety. Safety Awards & Competitions Coordinate AGC member participation in local and national safety contests and recognition programs. Assist member companies with award submissions and documentation. Manage participation in safety recognition programs through AGC of America. Participate in national committees, as relevant, including the Department of Defense subcommittee and mental health committee, as well as the Cal/OSHA standards board meetings, and AGC of America’s Safety Conference. Meet regularly with AGC of America’s government affairs liaison for regulation updates. AGC Industry Liaison Serve as the primary staff liaison on safety matters between AGC San Diego and AGC of America safety programs and regional construction safety leadership groups and industry partners. Provide updates to AGC leadership regarding national and statewide safety initiatives and opportunities for member engagement. Safety Training & Industry Education Work with the Director of Workforce Development to support coordination of AGC Safety Training Programs through the AGC San Diego Safety Training Center. Support development and delivery of safety education programs for contractors, supervisors, and safety professionals, as needed. Assist with curriculum development for new safety training programs and industry workshops as needed. Conduct periodic audits and evaluations of safety training curriculum to ensure programs remain current with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and federal safety requirements. Federal & Regulatory Safety Awareness Maintain awareness of federal contractor safety requirements including EM385-1-1 Safety and Occupational Health Requirements. Support educational initiatives that help contractors understand federal safety compliance requirements. Monitor regulatory updates affecting the construction industry. Skills Required: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred. 5-10 years of experience in construction safety, risk management, or safety program leadership. A combination of equivalent work experience, training in the field, and/or Occupational Safety and Health certificate programs through the OSHA Training Institutes or other nationally recognized safety training organization (whether certificates or degree programs), professional certifications such as CHST, OHST, and ASP through BCSP may be qualifying. Competent person training or experience in Fall Protection, Confined Space, Electrical, Trenching/Excavation, PPE, and Scaffolding required. Other related professional degrees or certificates are desired and will be considered ‘in lieu of’ competent person training. Current OSHA 30-hour (within past 5 years), OSHA 500 preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills are a plus. Experience working with construction contractors and jobsite safety programs preferred. Knowledge of construction safety regulations and industry practices. Ability to collaborate with contractors, safety professionals, and industry stakeholders. Knowledge of the philosophy, mission and leadership needs of the AGC preferred. Proficiency in MS Office platform and related software, as well as a knack for picking up database entry and other task-management platforms. Displays a strong professional and work ethic, honesty and integrity. Exceptional customer service, communication, presentation, and organizational skills. Ability to show initiative, be flexible, and prioritize tasks. Strong leadership and facilitation skills. Event coordination and program development experience. Organizational and project management skills. Hours and Travel Requirements: AGC San Diego Chapter hosts events and trainings year round at various locations around San Diego and occasionally out of town. This job requires traveling at times to coordinate and attend the events. Office hours are typically Monday through Friday, 7AM to 4PM PST at the AGC San Diego Chapter Safety Training Center in Ferris Square (Sorrento Valley).
