Research Engineer

Salary: $98,400 - 164,000 per year Requirements:

• We require a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field, or a masters degree with at least 2 years of industry experience, or a bachelors degree with at least 5 years of industry experience.
• We are looking for 2–5 years of strong FPGA and SoC design experience using Verilog, SystemVerilog, and VHDL.
• We need hands-on experience with Xilinx and/or Intel Altera FPGA devices, development tools, and ecosystems such as ModelSim, Intel Quartus, and Xilinx Vivado.
• We expect a solid grasp of digital logic design, including finite state machines, pipelining, and resource efficiency.
• We require experience with RTL simulation, synthesis, place-and-route, and timing closure.
• We value knowledge of clock domain crossing techniques and metastability reduction.
• We need familiarity with high-speed and standard interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, PCIe, and DDR.
• We require experience creating testbenches and carrying out functional verification.
• We expect proficiency with on-chip debugging tools such as ILA and SignalTap.
• We need the ability to read and interpret schematics, timing diagrams, and hardware datasheets.
• We require experience using version control systems, with Git preferred.
• We value experience with high-level synthesis tools and algorithm-to-hardware workflows, including Vitis HLS and integration with MathWorks MATLAB/Simulink for model-based design and verification.
• We prefer candidates with experience developing real-time embedded applications on microcontrollers, FPGAs, x86, and/or ARM processors.
• We value strong embedded programming skills in languages such as C, C++, C#, or Python.
• We prefer experience with Linux build systems such as Yocto.
• We value working knowledge of Linux driver and/or kernel development.
• We prefer experience writing firmware and performing low-level programming for microcontrollers.
• We value familiarity with real-time operating systems such as QNX, RTLinux, or VxWorks.
• We prefer exposure to virtualization technologies such as hypervisors and Docker containers.
• We value experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab and Jenkins.
• We require legal authorization to work in the United States and cannot sponsor Bachelors-level candidates for employment visas now or in the future.
• We require willingness to work from our office in Niskayuna, New York.

• We design FPGA solutions for embedded systems and industrial control systems.
• We use FPGA design tools to build, simulate, test, and optimize real-time embedded platforms.
• We help shape and pursue external research opportunities with U.S. government agencies such as the DOE and DOD.
• We collaborate with GE businesses to move real-time embedded control and communication technologies from lab demonstrations to field-ready prototypes.
• We partner with universities, industrial consortiums, commercial organizations, and other collaborators to advance embedded system technology.
• We publish technical papers, file patents, and contribute to open-source communities.
• We work to transition developed technologies into GE business products.
