Professional Learning Specialist

K-12 Professional Learning Specialist Position Type: Limited-Term (Renewable), Full-Time 40 hours weekly, Exempt. Pay range: $88,000 - $90,000. Job Summary The K–12 Professional Learning Specialist serves within TPI’s K–12 Practice Initiatives and is responsible for supporting school districts and school sites in strengthening educator capacity to meet the needs of diverse learners. The K–12 Professional Learning Specialist is a highly qualified educator with deep knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and evidence-based teaching practices. This role leads and supports professional learning activities, including classroom observations, coaching, modeling, and feedback designed to strengthen instructional effectiveness and improve student outcomes. The K–12 Professional Learning Specialist works collaboratively with site and district leaders to advance strategic priorities related to educational access, equity, and high‑quality learning opportunities for all students, including students with disabilities. This position requires regular travel within California to support TPI’s K–12 Practice Initiatives across multiple sites. The employee must have reliable transportation, the ability to travel independently as needed, a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record. Responsibilities Provide professional development and technical assistance to schools and districts on evidence‑based instructional practices, educational access for diverse learners, and Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support. Develop materials and related tools for schools to promote inclusive education programming. Conduct observations and provide appropriate coaching, modeling, and feedback. Support district and site leaders in developing implementation plans and employ feedback and coaching conversations to foster reflection of practice and continuous growth among professionals, enhancing student learning and promoting trust‑based relationships. Facilitate Professional Learning Communities (PLC) to lead planning, facilitate, and continuously improve teacher‑led and student‑focused professional development for teachers, in either in‑person or virtual modes. Model best practices in curriculum design, instructional methods, and classroom management skills. Collect and use data to drive instruction as well as to inform school‑wide initiatives. Create, revise, and implement new curriculum, connecting it with classroom instruction. Create systems, protocols, and processes for school sites. Provide support in analyzing data to inform practices. Program Support School Liaison Develop partnerships with school districts, school sites, and county offices of education. Support professional development training schedules and corresponding events and all related materials (marketing, Zoom links, Qualtrics surveys, etc.). Keep current on evidence‑based instructional strategies and best practices with an emphasis on inclusive education and disseminate this information to school sites. Collaborate regularly with partners. Travel to school sites and training sites. Required Qualifications Certified teacher with a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience. Knowledge of curriculum and instruction at multiple grade levels. Strong pedagogical knowledge and expertise. Demonstrates expertise in inclusive education including students with extensive support needs in general education classrooms. Ability to design and deliver high‑quality professional development and coaching to a variety of educators. Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills. Proven ability in using student‑level data to guide instructional practices. Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners. Excellent written and communication skills. Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills. Willingness to perform a variety of tasks, collaborate with district and site staff, and travel. Desired Qualifications Commitment to and willingness to continue learning in the areas of coaching, curriculum, assessment, and instructional strategies. Demonstrated strength in organization and meeting deadlines.
