Position Title Professor of Practice – Full‑time Lecturer Department and Program Construction Management (CM) Department, Sacramento State Position Summary The Professor of Practice is a non‑tenure‑track faculty appointment that brings the expertise of distinguished construction management professionals into the academic environment to enhance student learning and strengthen connections with industry partners. Duties / Responsibilities Teach undergraduate construction management courses in the applicant’s areas of expertise. Participate in curriculum and coursework development. Advise and mentor students, assist with orientations. Contribute to department, college, and university level committee work. Engage in student‑related activities, such as coaching teams for student competitions, serving as a student club faculty advisor, or supporting the summer bootstrap program. Identify construction field‑trip locations, obtain permission to visit sites, and lead student field trips. Complete additional work in service of the department as required (3 WTUs per semester). Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, civil or mechanical engineering, or a similar profession. Seven years (minimum) domestic construction experience in commercial building, engineering, or specialty subcontracting segments. Professional experience with responsibility and authority to plan, schedule, monitor, and control construction projects or significant portions of large projects. Demonstrated competency in at least one of the following areas: estimating; project management; planning and scheduling; construction operations and productivity management; construction safety; computer applications in construction; labor relations or construction law; or specialty contracting (e.g., MEPF). Excellent communication skills. Ability and commitment to effectively teach undergraduate courses to a diverse student population. Commitment to enhance interaction with the construction industry in support of the CM Program. Preferred Qualifications College‑level teaching experience. Local and/or regional construction industry experience. Contemporary estimating and project management experience. Master’s degree in construction, civil engineering, or a related discipline. Other professional degrees (MBA, juris doctorate, etc.) may also be considered when combined with a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Appointment & Compensation Full‑time instructional position, one academic year fixed term, renewable contingent upon funding, programmatic need, and performance. The position is equivalent to 15 weighted teaching units (WTUs) per semester: 12 WTUs instructional duties and 3 WTUs for additional departmental work. Salary range for Lecturer B is $6,221–$13,224 (full‑time rate). Application Instructions Review of applications will begin May 20; the position will remain open until filled.
