This position owns key balance sheet areas, executes and documents SOX controls, and serves as a primary audit contact. The role is well‑suited for a Big 4–trained professional with strong technical accounting, internal controls, and public company experience.ResponsibilitiesFixed Assets & Inventory AccountingOwn fixed asset and inventory accounting processes in accordance with US GAAP and company policiesMaintain fixed asset subledger including capitalization, depreciation, impairments, transfers, and disposalsEnsure appropriate asset classification and capitalization thresholds through cross-functional partnershipOversee inventory valuation, reserves, and obsolescencePerform monthly subledger-to-GL reconciliationsAnalyze and explain period-over-period variances and estimatesPrepare fixed asset roll forward to support cash flow reportingPerform the monthly useful life review ensuring new fixed assets are entered into Sage in accordance with US GAAP and company policiesMaintain tax ledgers for fixed assetsCapital Expenditures, Approvals & ROI Oversight (New Section)Own accounting oversight for capital expenditure (CapEx) activities, ensuring compliance with capitalization policies and approval thresholdsPartner with Finance, Operations, and business leaders to support CapEx request reviews, approvals, and financial justificationTrack approved CapEx projects against budget, timing, and spend; investigate and resolve budget to actual variancesMaintain CapEx schedules and reporting to support management review and forecastingEnsure CapEx activity is accurately reflected in fixed asset records and financial reportingSupport post implementation reviews, including ROI analysis and comparison of actual results to approved business casesIdentify risks related to CapEx controls, approvals, or reporting and recommend enhancementsProvide audit ready documentation supporting CapEx approvals, capitalization decisions, and ROI assessmentsChallenge assumptions in CapEx business cases and ensure consistent application of ROI methodologiesSOX Compliance & Internal ControlsOwn execution, documentation, and self-assessment of SOX controls related to fixed assets and inventoryPrepare and retain audit-quality control evidenceMaintain process narratives, risk and control matrices, and desktop proceduresServe as a primary liaison for Internal Audit and External AuditIdentify control deficiencies and support remediation plansSupport quarterly SOX certifications and management representationsFinancial Close & Audit SupportPrepare and review journal entries related to fixed assets and inventorySupport month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close in a SOX-compliant environmentPrepare audit schedules and technical accounting supportRespond to auditor PBC requests with clear documentationAssist in other areas of the accounting close as needed (TMS, leases, etc.)Process Improvement & LeadershipDrive continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controlsSupport ERP implementations or control automation initiativesApply a strong risk-based mindset to accounting activitiesProvide guidance and informal mentorship to staff accountantsModel the Company’s values to influence others to perform in an aligned manner.Other duties as assignedQualificationsRequired Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAdvanced Excel skills; analytics or BI tools a plusComfortable operating in a high-scrutiny SOX environmentOwnership mindset over complex balance sheet areasHighly organized, detail-oriented, and control-focusedConfident communicator with auditors and cross-functional partnersEducation and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA preferred)4–7 years of experience including Big 4 audit experienceStrong exposure to SOX-heavy public company environmentsDeep understanding of US GAAP and SOX 404 complianceExperience owning controls and supporting auditsBig 4–trained with a strong audit and controls foundationERP experience (AS400, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Workday, or similar)Fixed Asset Software experience a plus Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
