In this role, you'll lead structural design efforts for wastewater, solid waste, and collection system facilities; perform complex analyses; conduct site inspections; and collaborate with civil, architectural, electrical, and mechanical engineering teams. Licensure as a Structural Engineer and experience with large-scale municipal or industrial projects are highly desirable. Under the general supervision of a Supervising Engineer, the incumbent will:Design and prepare plans, specifications and engineering calculations for administrative, wastewater treatment, collection systems, and solid waste facilitiesProvide design support during construction of capital projectsPlan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of work for engineering projectsDrive to various sites for inspections or meetingsParticipate in reviewing or evaluating the work of others such as consultants, vendors or temporary agency workers on a project basisMinimum QualificationsCandidates must possess all of the following:A valid California Class C driver license-AND-Engineering Associate II Level:Option 1: A bachelor's degree and master's degree both in a pertinent engineering discipline from an accredited and recognized college or universityOption 2: A bachelor's degree from an accredited and recognized college or university in a related science with an Engineer-In-Training Certificate and a master's degree from an accredited and recognized college or university in a pertinent engineering disciplineOption 3: Two (2) years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or universityEngineering Associate III Level:Option 1: Two (2) years of experience as an Engineering Associate IIOption 2: Four (4) years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or universityEngineer Level:Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer with the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and GeologistsAND:Option 1: Six (6) years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or universityOption 2: A master's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university -AND- Three (3) years of professional engineering experienceOption 3: A PhD in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university -AND- two (2) years of professional engineering experienceDesirable Qualifications:The ideal candidate possesses the following:Licensure as a Professional Structural EngineerAt least eight (8) years of professional structural engineering experienceProfessional design experience in the water/wastewater infrastructure industryExamples of Assessment CriteriaThe competitive selection process for ALL LEVELS may include:Knowledge of structural engineering theory and practicesRelevant building codes and standardsStrength, properties and uses of engineering construction materialsComplex engineering construction procedures and best practicesSeismic evaluation and retrofit principlesComplex investigation, research and survey methodsProject management methodsPrinciples of administration, economics, organization, training and project leadershipAbility to design complex projects in field of structural engineeringAnalyze large-scale, complex engineering problemsApply critical thinking and engineering knowledge to develop appropriate solutionsPrepare, review, check or interpret engineering plans and specificationsApply appropriate engineering principlesPlan, organize and monitor the effectiveness of the work of operations, repair, maintenance and engineering staff, consultants and vendorsCoordinate and administer complex engineering projectsInterpret and apply applicable laws, regulations, policies and proceduresCommunicate effectively both verbally and in writing to both technical and non-technical audiencesEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with Districts staff, the public, consultants, and vendorsNegotiate on behalf of the DistrictsPrepare and coordinate the development of comprehensive reportsAdditional InformationNote: This posting will remain open until the vacancy is filled and is subject to closure without notice.
