Job Summary As a Patient Billing Representative, you will assist patients with all billing inquiries across the organization in a face‑to‑face arena. You will review patient bills, collect liabilities for upcoming procedures, collect past‑due balances, review alternate benefit options, secure authorizations, set up fee arrangements, and backfill other locations. Additionally, you will handle complicated, escalated inquiries, provide estimates for services, coordinate special projects, process adjustments, correct payments, serve as an expert on departmental processes and procedures, and coach staff. Your goal is to provide timely, accurate assistance that delivers the best patient experience. Responsibilities Assist patients, face to face, via email, fax, mail, or phone, with accurate account information. Act as liaison between patient, providers, and external departments ensuring charges are correctly applied, transactions recorded, and account discrepancies resolved. Plan, organize, and prioritize work; discuss financial responsibilities with patients and educate them on available assistance options and financial impact of alternatives. Obtain appropriate authorizations timely and provide accurate estimates for upcoming procedures. Deliver best‑in‑class service to all patient inquiries, maintaining high levels of satisfaction. Collaborate with clinical staff regarding patient benefits, pricing, authorizations, denial review, appeals, and physician adjustments. Assist supervisors with escalated patient inquiries and daily departmental operations. Provide routine support for new hires and ongoing staff training/coaching. Conduct complex research of patient accounts before processing adjustments. Education High School diploma or equivalent (Preferred). Bachelor’s degree. Work Experience Minimum 2 years of customer service, healthcare, or office experience. Preferred: 1 year in a healthcare business office, collections/customer service experience. Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Bilingual (preferred). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and patient information retrieval. Effective verbal and written communication; ability to present information clearly and professionally. Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and role‑specific software packages. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to multi‑task and thrive in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment. Ability to remain calm and professional during high‑pressure, stressful financial conversations. Organizational and prioritization skills to meet deadlines. Independent decision making with minimal supervision. Capacity to provide coaching and constructive feedback. Demonstrated problem‑solving, attention to detail, and robust follow‑up. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Additional related duties as required. Reliable transportation for occasional travel to other facilities. Physical and Environmental Demands Requirements include sedentary work with occasional lifting up to 10 pounds, occasional walking or standing, and exposure to potential blood, bodily fluids, and communicable diseases.
