Maternal Fetal Medicine Physician

Staff PhysicianThe Staff Physician provides direct patient care and emergency services in an effort to ensure that patient health care needs are met at all times.ResponsibilitiesTechnical tasks:Provide comprehensive care for high-risk obstetric patients in both inpatient and outpatient settingsPerform and interpret advanced obstetric ultrasounds, including fetal anatomy scans and growth assessmentsOffer consultations and co-management with OB/GYN providers, midwives, and hospitalistsParticipate in delivery planning and coordinate care for complex pregnanciesCollaborate with neonatology, pediatrics, and other specialty services to ensure continuity of careContribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical protocolsSupport education and mentorship of residents, medical students, and clinical staff (if applicable)Demonstrates a commitment to the philosophy and values of the organization to ensure that the highest quality of medical care is delivered at all times; accurately assesses health status of patients coming to or telephoning the practice for assistance and/or informationIs responsible for medical supervision and direction of all care rendered, and for development of treatment protocols, as and if necessary, for all patients seen in the practice;Assists in the meeting of all accreditation and legal requirements and regulations of the hospital (JCAHO, City, State & Federal);Works closely & collaboratively with the Physician Practice Management Director as well as other management and clinical staff to assure smooth and successful operation of the practice;Has working knowledge of and is involved in issues related to licensing and credentialling bodies as well as issues relevant to reimbursementPeriodically assists in evaluating the competency and adequacy of all support staff members working within the office practiceMaintains a good working relationship with consulting, referring and attending physicians and with other health professionalsIs an active participant in committee activities required of hospital Medical Staff membersIs responsible for adhering to the Standards of Medical Practice and/or developing, or assisting in the development of, quality assurance indicators for the practiceAt all times, maintains complete and accurate record-keeping of all patient care related activitiesDemonstrates a knowledge of corporate policies regarding fire and safety, handling hazardous materials (if applicable) and infection controlCritical thinking:Consistently demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, consider the alternatives and properly choose an appropriate course of action; utilizes initiative and independent judgement in evaluating the assessment, implementation and evaluation of patients coming into contact with the practiceHelps to assess the medical and nursing care rendered by self and others within the practice, identifying any need for improvementUses appropriate internal and external resources to resolve, meet or exceed patient and family health care needsIs actively involved in making recommendations for improving the medical practice, i.e., giving input on equipment, staffing requirements, space requirements, utilization review, quality assurance, marketing, etc;Demonstrates competency and accuracy in all work tasks, including those directly and indirectly related to patient care;Inspires confidence from patients, visitors and families by performing and communicating in a courteous and professional manner at all timesDisplays good problem-solving skills and takes responsibility for improving technical skills, critical thinking and interpersonal relationship skillsDemonstrates a complete understanding of patient confidentiality policy, releasing confidential information only after receiving proper written authorizationInterpersonal relations:Is willing to accept the mission and values of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center and to diligently integrate those values when dealing with patients, family, visitors, physicians, supervisors and fellow office personnel; maintains forthright and honest behavior at all timesOther duties as assigned:Consistently performs 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service, and Quality.QualificationsBoard Certified or Board Eligible in Maternal-Fetal MedicineCompletion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Maternal-Fetal MedicineEligible for medical licensure in LouisianaStrong clinical skills with a patient-centered approachExcellent communication and collaboration abilities
