About the Department The Clinical, Medical and Regulatory (CMR) department at Novo Nordisk is one of the most diverse and collaborative groups within the organization. Position Position provides field coaching, mentorship and management to the field-based Medical Liaisons and develops and implements strategies aligned to identified territory archetype that optimally manage key opinion leader/organized providers/academic institutions/integrated delivery networks and other key health care provider/organization relationships, specifically with the provision of timely and up to date scientific information relevant to customer needs and aligned to NNI patient value framework ensure personal development of the team, and ensure collaboration between the field-based Medical Liaison team and other NNI units/personal. Prioritization of customer engagement by FD based on territory archetypes and are inclusive of Organized Provider Accounts, project and team leading responsibilities for FMA; contributes to the representation of FMA throughout the US affiliate and globally if needed; responsible for administrative and management support of field-based FMA Program at Novo Nordisk Inc (NNI). Accountable for ensuring that they lead/act, and their team act, in complete and total compliance with all laws, regulations and policies. Responsible for administrative and management support of field-based FMA Program at Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI). Assignments are objective oriented and defined in collaboration with senior management; results assessed from a relatively long-term perspective. Establishes operating policies and procedures that affect the work unit. Develops budgets, schedules and performance standards. Strategic determination of change of region and territory prioritization will be based on customer need and analytics which identify need for change. This may occur at any time throughout the annual performance cycle. Relationships Reports to Executive Director or Vice President, Medical Affairs. Has direct supervisory responsibility for field based Medical Liaisons in designated areas of the US. Works closely with the home office; Medical, Marketing, Sales, Legal, Human Resources and other field personnel. Works as needed with Medical Liaisons and their contacts with relevant prioritized customers within academic institutions; integrated delivery networks; managed care organizations and HMOs based on territory archetypes and alignment with NNI patient value framework. Strong networking/collaboration skills needed in working with sales, CTM, and DEP management. Leads briefings and technical meetings for internal and external representatives. Essential Functions Advocacy & Professional Relationship Development Leads and participates in special Area and National projects e.g., team meetings, training, etc. Maintains a thorough and detailed working knowledge of NNI, its products, current scientific research and publications associated with same Takes a leadership role in coordinating FMA activities at assigned medical and scientific meetings and symposia. Presents at assigned symposia to maintain awareness of current industry issues and new data pertaining to NNI products, develops and maintains relationships with key health care providers, conveys appropriate use of NNI products and greater utilization of its services, and supports representatives in answering physicians questions Coordination/Communication and Administration Participates and provides industry insight to Marketing and Sales meetings, as needed Profiles and identifies key investigators to initiate and/or participate in clinical trials and identify key areas of future research Responds to on-and off label questions with highest integrity, compliance, and adherence to legal, regulatory and company guidelines, policies and procedures Reviews and audits direct report expense reports; manages and reviews time and activities (as collected and tracked in OSS). Closely monitors and measures activities, plans and budget to ensure desired outcomes Reviews, evaluates, and channels information to the appropriate NNI personnel, if needed, and provides timely responses to requests from the Medical Liaisons for support of various activities from contacts in their respective region: (1) financial support of research, teaching, and CME activities, (2) product or technical services to conduct and/or publish research (3) technical services to aid in educational endeavors, (4) product and disease information, and (5) participation in consulting activities or clinical studies Works with the field-based Regional and MM teams to improve, enhance and develop new relationships with thought-leaders in specialty areas that are affected by NNI products. Helps define mutual areas of interest and potential areas of collaboration. Understands and actively addresses long-term underlying problems, opportunities that affects the organization in relation to the marketplace Cross Functional Support Assists with planning and delivering presentations for Pre-POA, POA and other company meetings as directed In collaboration with sales training, assists with education using appropriate PRB approved resources and per NNI policies on product knowledge and understanding of technical information within the therapeutic area Management Acts rapidly, appropriately, decisively and consistency in cases of observed or reported potential policy violation Assists in the recruitment and selection efforts of staff. Ensures open positions are filled in timely manner with best fit candidates Assists reporting personnel in setting/reviewing annual goals and coaching them on IDPs Communicates NNI policies, procedures (including 3P) and organizational changes to reporting personnel; answers teams questions Coordinates with other Field Directors to ensure consistency of training and development approach across different areas while customizing initiatives to best fit the unique needs of direct reports Ensures that FMA personnel understand the strategic and therapeutic priorities of Novo Nordisk, that their work is focused on those priorities, and that they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process Evaluates MLs in field and gives timely and constructive feedback and guidance to them on their performance; document in iCoach Mentors new Field Directors, MLs, and RMSs regarding both technical and leadership responsibilities, as directed Prepares with MLs for field: reviewing agendas, decks Provides mentoring and builds the talents of reporting personnel, particularly with respect to knowledge of technical and scientific information, business practices, and communication and motivational skills. Establishes a challenging, stimulating, productive and fair work environment, that supports rewards, both individual and team accomplishments Spends field time with direct reports to coach and develop personnel and ensure that unit objectives are being met. Performs appropriate workforce assessments to identify talent and gaps and plan for resource need Strategic Planning Facilitates and indicates feedback from Medical Liaisons to assist Medical and Marketing and Sales to develop strategies and tactics that will (1) improve and enhance strategic planning and (2) expands and improves the quality of clinical research (3) increases accuracy of medical and marketing assessments (4) improves the competitive positioning of NNI products Interacts with Executive Director to define therapeutic area disease and treatment concepts that will: (1) affect the basis of Medical Liaison field based activities, (2) be adopted by thought leaders/organized providers and academic institutions/integrated delivery networks; (3) ensure the appropriate use of Novo Nordisk products. Defines and implements tactics that will allow for the timely acceptance of these concepts Physical Requirements 50-75% overnight travel required. Position is Field Based, ideal candidate will reside ideally in New Jersey; position covers the East; Driver must maintain a valid driver's license; Must be in good standing by not exceeding the Novo Nordisk points threshold assigned based on review of Motor Vehicle Records. Development of People Supervisory. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way. Qualifications A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in ML or equivalent role required A minimum of 6 years previous management experience required, including at least 2 years leading field medical affairs personnel A minimum of 8 years progressive pharmaceutical industry experience required, with at least 3 years of experience in a healthcare system preferred An advanced health care or science degree (e.g., DO, MD, PharmD, PhD, DNP) required Decisions have a serious impact on overall success or failure on area of accountability Direct experience in therapeutic area (e.g. hematology, diabetes, endocrinology) is preferred Proven track record of success, especially in the area of establishing relationships with opinion leaders, organized providers, strategy and team management and significant cross-functional collaborative leadership capabilities Requires demonstrated ability to establish and strengthen relationships with internal and external customers and the ability to enhance and advance Novo Nordisks image and operations as a leading diabetes care company Requires minimal supervision, the ability to proactively identify, address and resolve team-wide challenges, and be considered a valuable resource who sets a leadership example for others Requires self-development, including leadership/personal development, reading latest scientific literature, and keeping up with competitors Requires someone with a take-charge attitude, works autonomously and strategically, and adds creativity and value to operations on the Area and national level by leading and sharing best practices Requires the flexibility and foresight to quickly and strategically navigate field medical personnel through a rapidly changing dynamic market space Demonstrates leadership skills to less experienced field directors and assists them in strategic thinking and problem solving skills Compensation and Benefits The base compensation range for this position is $250,000 to $320,000. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance. Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
